Hey Everyone,
I was just wanting some advice!
My due date is 21 May according to my scan on the 29th Spetember which my baby measured 6 weeks and had a heart beat. I then had another Scan a week later as i was having bad cramping and they gave me a due date of 31 May 2007. I also had one when i first found out i was pregnant on the 17th Sept which said my baby measured 5 weeks gestional age and a diff date again, so what date do i go by?
I am happy with the 21st of May as it fits in closer to my due date according to my LMP which was 05.08.2006 so i should be due on the 12th May.. but the 31st is so far off and if i was due on the 31st the baby would of been concieved 7 days earlier before my first scan..and is that even possible to measure 0.34mm at 7 days old? It had a very slight fetal pole at 5 weeks but not enough to say it was a def heart beat. Im just a little confused about it all! I am now 17 weeks according to the 21st..so i am having my 18 weeks scan in 2 weeks.
Thanks and i hope this makes sense!

Ummmm, I had 3 due dates but there was only about 7 days difference between the earliest and latest...
I went with my own due date that I had worked out as I knew when I conceived...I went with the latest due date as I did not want to be induced....
And its lucky I did as I went 14 days over MY EDD and therefore 21 days over the scan EDD
I think you should go with what you think is the best estimate...but maybe dont be stressed if bub ends up late and dont get yourself talked into an induction based on dates...as maybe bub is really due later than you expected!!
Oh just wanted to add, your next scan may make things a bit clearer...and again, be prepared for bub not to come on time anyway...

Sounds like too many dates for me! The 31st would HAVE to be wrong - surely there is no-where you concieved 7days before your first scan!
If you are confident of your cycles - i would be more inclined to use the 12th or maybe even the 21st. But see how what comes from the next scan.
I have 2 dates at the moment - but they are only 5 days apart, and both me and my OB are happy to use my dates.
Try not to worry about it - bubs will come when ready, and since your dates are before thescan dates, you don't have to worry about being forced into an induction.
My due dates were as follows:
25th July
1st August
4th August
13th August.
I chose to let them go with the last one as I was determined not to be induced but by my own chart the 1st August one was the most accurate.
My baby arrived of his own accord on 31st July.

My due dates are only 3 days difference 27th by my LMP and 30th by my scan. Scans only do an average of the size of the baby and the age it would be at that size to pick a date. You could have a very big baby giving you a EDD of 15th or so when really its not. I find doctors like to go with your LMP EDD if you are 100% sure on your dates and regular but after saying that my son was 19 days late. Wait till you have your 18-20 wk scan you'll prob end up with anther date altogether. In the end the baby will come when it wants to.
Oh and welcome to may mums :)

Do you know when you ovulated at all? I am lucky to get a sharp pain whenever it happens so know exactly when I conceived. This is the date that my OB and I use - we just ignore the scan dates. Ever scan you seem to go to gives you a different date. If you don't know when you ovulated I would stick with your LMP for a correct due date. And I agree with Nicky - Bub will always turn up when they want to (unless you have to be induced / caesar)

My ob told me that the dates given at scans done in the 6-8 week mark are the most accurate as the growth of bubs then is fairly standard and not affected by genetics. They are still an estimate and can be out by 3 to 5 days. The later they are the more genetics and normal differing of bub growth comes in to it. So you should go by your first scan.
One web site gave the following variances on the accuracy of dating scans
Up to 12 weeks, +/- 3-5days
12 - 22 weeks, +/- 10days
22 weeks on, 2 to 3 weeks variance
ooops I just re-read your post and realised they were all in the early one . . . :o
