Hi all

Yes I am Pet - wish you were here!

Did I neglect to mention to all and sundry that I do ALL of my posting and surfing while at work?

I'll probably do the boys names tomorrow.

And yes ladies, Griselda is an unusual one but I thought Guadalupe which is five times more popular out there!

Wasn't 'Esmerelda' Samatha's aunt in Bewitched?? Or someone on Bewitched?

And 'Griselda' does sound like a witch, from a children's story that I can't remember.

And 'Princess' - well you're just setting them up for a hard time later on....

Wasn't Esmeralda Samantha's ditzy aunt ... you know the one - she always cast the wrong spell invariably when babysitting Tabitha?

Hmm - who watched too much tele??

I'm not too surprised at Guadalupe actually. I believe it's fairly common in mexican families, and so in parts of the USA. I didn't quite understand it but there's a story involving an appearance of the Virgin Mary at a church in Mexico, with her calling herself "Lady of Guadalupe" and subsequent miracles. See here (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/mary0003.htm) or here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_Guadalupe) if you're interested.

Oh yeah ... so who was esmeralda?

Oh & Martha - thanks for the info. Helps to put it in cultural perspective ... not too many Mexicans around here so the name really was foreign.

I too have heard recently of a local couple using the name Guadalupe as their second daughter's middle name. For them, its a catholic thing, but I keep thinking of Speedy Gonzales cartoons :o .

You know, Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha), but in a black wig. Was she Esmeralda?

Oh no - I've just remembered - she was "Sarina" wasn't she?

Cheers

there was an aunt esmerelda. she came on when aunt clara died, however she was not technically an aunt.

Aunt Esmerelda is a sweet, lovable witch, but completely incompetent. Due to her devotion to Sam, Esmerelda often acts as a baby sitter and housekeeper with disastrous results. Her attempt at a Caesar salad resulted in Caesar himself, along with Cleopatra and slaves appearing in Sam's kitchen.
