We have an 8 kg Pommeranium dog who is about 9 years old.

He has always been territorial and barks but the barking has become out of control and to the point where I am at breaking point! I am suprised the neighbours havent complained to the council or worse!

Can anyone advise as to how to get this barking undercontrol? Has anyone used a bark control collar or the services of Bark Busters or similar (we live on the Gold Coast)??

Any information would be appreciated.

Hmmmmm.... you don't live next door to me do you?! :D Just kidding! We have a neighbour with the same problem! Their's barked non-stop for two hours straight last night as I was trying to get DD to sleep!

I've had a small dog before who was a bit of a yapper, and unfortunately the only thing that stopped ours was to let her sleep in the laundry overnight (didn't bark much during the day, thankfully). Is your dog an indoor or outdoor dog?

Our neighbours have said that they tried one of those citronella collars on their dog, but it didn't work - only made the dog upset. I am sure they do work for some dogs (wouldn't be on the market otherwise, I guess) but there are probably better ways.

I haven't tried or known anyone who's tried bark busters, but perhaps have a word with your vet about it. They can often be really helpful in these matters. They can also rule out any medical cause.

Sorry I can't be of much more help. I know it is a stressful thing to go through.

He is an indoor/outdoor dog. He has his own dog door. Good idea I will speak to the Vet when I take him to get his yearly shots in the next week or so.

yep i hear your problem
i have a shih tzu x staffy x ridgeback
basically she looks like a shih tzu with a ridge on her back
and she just wont shut up
when she gets too much i put her in the laundry
and she is quiet then

i have a friend who has tried citronella collars on her dogs and they barked intentionally till there was no citronella left
then they can just bark at will grr little yap yaps drive me nutty sometimes but ya still gotta love em

We use a water spray bottle to spray our dogs when they bark when people come to the front door. It helps.

Hi,
there may be a reason as it has gotten worse so I would get him checked out, it could be a new dog or cat has moved in near you and is setting him off, bark busters can work great for some dogs but if you have a dog that is timid there methods are not the best, citronella collars can work sometimes but it depends why they are barking I would recommend a good behaviouralist, i have heard a few people on here talk about the dog whisperer and he sounds really good, I am not sure what his website is maybe someone else does??? good luck
