Como Pleasure Grounds Pool is free, and great for the kids. Nice view of the river and Como Bridge. Plus there's a park and a Thai Restaurant adjacent which serves lunch for under $10 and acters for kids too. I go there every hot day. It's open from 12-7.
Puppet Theatre in The Rocks, Sydney. It's also free and very interactive for the kids.
Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour is good for older kids.
These are my favourites for budget weeks.
On a good week we go to the movies on Tuesdays. Or to the aquarium in Darling Harbour :D

We went to Featherdale bck in November and ti was fantastic even for little ones under two (Kristie im sure RJ would love petting all the lambs, chickens and piglets etc)
BUT try and go on a cool day as it got so hot out there and it was only Nov.!
We are planning a big trip to Dubbo at the begining of April (for dh's 30th bash with his family and friends) and i cant wait to take O to Dubbo Zoo his going to love it!

i went to featherdale once. but it was just me and a friend as she was from south korea and only in australia for 12 months and never seen a real live kangaroo or koala. so us 2 grown up went together  she was afraid to tough the koalas and kangaroos though...LOL
i had forgotten about that place til you mentioned it.
we were just in dubbo...*groan*...i wanted to take RJ to the zoo but we couldnt really afford it as we were only there as DP had to work and we thought we'd tag along. but next time we go we'll be sure to go to the zoo. (i think i went there once when i was in yr 6 on the way to our canberra excursion  ).

Was it really hot? we try and avoid going there in the hotter months etc as its just a killer.....im thinking April will be a good time to head back for a visit......not to hot and no where near the winter freeze dubbo gets at night!
BUT im making dh get us two hotel rooms lol as I dont want to impose on any of his rellies back there and since his dad has finally leased their family home theres really no other alternative hehehe i just really want the luxuries of a hotel (pool/air conditioning/privacy) etc etc :D

yeah it was pretty hot but didnt really notice it as we were inside with the A/C on all day.....:smiliedance:
i've never been in winter, gets cold huh?
wish we could have afforded a hotel room, maybe we could of had some privacy as well....we had to impose on DP's family up there to stay there. but koori families dont know the word impose so they would have been insulted if we chose to stay in a hotel rather than with them.
lucky DP's aunty (who's room we had to stay in) works nights in a womens refuge so we had a bed to slepp in without kicking anyone out of there bed.
sorry off topic.....
whats dubbo zoo like? as i said, i went there when i was in year 6 but that was aaaagggeeessss ago. i'd like to take RJ there when he is a little older.

hehehe yes i know i may upset some people when we go back and stay at a motel
BUT to be honest bubs will only be a couple of months old and i really will need my own bathroom and some space!
Plus with O's allergies and asthma i dont want to expose him to the smoke factor....
Dubbo Zoo is great (well it was last time i went which was about 6yr ago lol)
Its very big so you can drive your car around and see the animals.
Its a bit smelly but hey its the zoo:D
Im sure RJ will love it!

Another place I thought of which is great and free for the kids is The Entrance. They have free entertainment and a pool "thingy" for the kids that is onlly about 6inches deep.
