My 10 m.o. is still waking up numerous times in the night. I feed her to get her back to sleep - it's the quietest & quickest option. But I'm getting more and more sleep deprived. My body is adjusting to it which is BAD - I'm easily upset, easily irritable and I get pretty blue during the day. All I want is a FULL NIGHTS SLEEP! Argh.
So we've decided on action - but we don't know what action!!!!
My question here is: will putting her in her own room make any difference? or will it just mean further for me to stumble during the night to get to her?
Any experiences of this idea working/not working appreciated...
I think having your bub in her own room will definitely help... she is so used to having you whenever she wants that she is relying on you to get her back to sleep instead of doing it herself. I would highly recommend you do some reading on the subject as there are lots of solutions - you just have to find the right one for you and your baby. There are a lot of factors to consider - age, how she is fed (breast or bottle), if you are co-sleeping or not, routines, etc.
I highly recommend The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley, and The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg. Try your local libraries if you don't want to buy a copy. Also read some of the other threads in this section as I've offered advice to other mums that might work for you.
These things take time to sort out, so in the meantime I really hope you get some much needed rest - is there any family or friends who can help you - even if they take your daughter for a couple of hours so you can rest?
I really sympathise because I have been in your shoes and it was the worst time of my life - you start living in this weird haze and your temper can snap at any moment. Just remember the good times and try to stay calm and patient and understand that your little one is still learning... all they need is love.
