Hi Ladies,

I thought I'd start a new post.

We will be meeting our twins before the New Year which means they will be born at 33/34 weeks and be in special care for a while.

To be honest I'm quite anxious about it and not quite sure what to expect.

I thought I'd just start a thread so we can chat.

Happy chatting.

 Hi Shajake, Congratulations!

Do you have any idea when the twins will be born? What type of birth would you like natural or c-section? Do you know the sex of the twins? Or you don't want to know?

My twins could come at time now. It's a girl and boy. I hope I have v/birth, as it much easier on me.

Hi Shajake

I had my twins at 31w5d due to a problem with DS cord.

We were in hospital for 27 days and they are now 14mths old and thriving.

The only thing I would suggest is you talk to your Dr about steroids prior to delivery. I had the two shots of steroids on the Thursday & Friday and delivered on Sunday, Bailey needed no breathing assistance and Taea only needed CPAP for a total of 8 days.

If you need to talk I'm here.

The twins at this stage look like being born before the new year. I'll be about 32 and a half to 33 and half weeks. I'm having boys and I'll be having a c-section.

Good luck with your birth. Where will you be having the babies

No, TTTS has been resolved and there is now a growth discrepency between the two twins. There has been since 13 weeks. At my last scan which was last Wed - 1 baby is 1500gram and the other is 1088grams. My ob is worried about the little one. Should know more about dates on Thursday.

That's great to hear, I like to hear about these things because I'm really quite anxious at the moment. I had two steroid shots at 26 weeks and he said last week that I didn't need anymore. So I hope he's right. What's CPAP?

Hi Shajake,

My 2 were born at 34wk 5days, but just wanted to tell you we had quite a bit of growth discordance as well.

From the 6wk scan, Noah was measuring a week ahead already. By the time I had them, they were measuring 2wks apart. Layla was 1840grams when she was born, and Noah was 2830grams!!

They're 2 on thursday, and have hit all their milestones right on track.

They only spent 18 days in special care when they were born, but it seems like a lifetime. Just try and be strong, and know that they will get the best of care whilst in hospital. Those midwives really love their little premmies.

If you need to ask any more questions, don't hesitate!!

Michelle

Hi Shajake,

I hope everything goes well for you. If it gives you any hope, even experienced sonographers/obs can get the sizes quite wrong. My girls were measuring 3.2kgs and 2.2kgs (from memory), this along with a couple of other indicators made him think they were suffering TTTS and needed to come out - at 37 weeks they ended up being 2.6 and 2.66kgs, both 48cm long and both with 36cm head circs! Last time I weighed them they were 20gms different and exactly the same height!

Hi Duchessa, so what should I do? Should I let me ob take them out in a couple of weeks or what...I'm so confused. Do I trust his judgement and experience or do I challenge?

Good luck with your birth. Where will you be having the babies

At the Royal Hobart Hospital, in Tasmania. I have had all my other babies there with on problems at all

Sorry Shajake I haven't been on for a little while.

CPAP = continual positive airway pressure - meaning basically it provides a flow of air to the baby so they don't have to work so hard for it.

It is like a lightweight ventilator.

Your DR is right about the steroids you can usually only have one course prior to delivery.

My two also had a growth discrepancy right through. Taea was 1860gms when born and Bailey was 1385gms. We now have a 2kg discrepancy although the Paed assures us that Bailey will catch up eventually.

If there's anything else you want to ask feel free.

Hey Shajake - sorry if my post made you doubt - I think all that you can do is follow the advice of the professional that you have chosen to make these decisions for you - my post was really just saying that hopefully he is wrong and that they are ok in size... It is hard to do, but once you have decided on an OB I think it is best to have confidence in his/her ability to make the right call. It is all about odds...

Hi all,

A quick update before I go and do some scrapbooking. I'm having a CTG in the morning and if all is okay then I'll be meeting my babies next Thursday or Friday. If not then it could be as early as tommorrow.

I will keep you all informed.

Have a great day.

You see Lionel Steinburg, right? Well I do too, and knowing him he is so professional, so experienced and so low intervention that I have complete faith in his decision making.

Thanks Duchessa, some days I'm so emotional and I don't really know why. I don't know whether to cry out of fear for the babies or out of happiness that after everything we've been through that we're finally at this point.
