Hi! How are you? I thought I'd start a thread that contains recipes for babies on solids that can be pureed or lumpy pureed.

I dunno about other people, but I prefer to cook my own meals and lumpy puree them for my son, rather than fork out $$ for tinned food. What I do, is I do a cook up, and then I store the food in empty baby food jars or if I run out of those, in sealy bags, in the freezer, and just defrost in the fridge overnight for the next day!

So here's a GREAT recipe that I got off a mate of mine, which my DS just WOLFED down after spending a week refusing tinned food.

Hearty Beef or Lamb Stew
I used my slow cooker for this one.

Celery - diced
Garlic
Onion - diced
Beef or Lamb - diced
1 can of Four Bean Mix
Sweet Potato - diced
Zuccini - sliced
Liquid Beef or Vegetable Stock

Saute the Garlic, Onion and Celery in a frypan. Add the Beef or Lamb and brown. Chuck into slow cooker with Liquid Beef Stock, diced Sweet Potato, sliced Zuccini and Four Bean Mix. Slow Cook on High for 4-5 hours.

Place your stew in a blender a little bit at a time and blend until desired texture.

Hi

I agree this is a great thread. I thought I would add my vegie recipe. My little boy loves it and I know that he is getting everything he needs. I make up enough to last a couple of weeks and put it in containers in the freezer. Then I defrost one for lunch or dinner (sometimes both) and add whatever meat we are having for dinner, or have left over from last nights dinner.

potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, colliflower, broccoli, zuccinni, cabbage, beans, peas, chick peas, rice and pasta (or cuscous)

The rice and pasta just makes it a little more filling. If your baby is not up to that yet add rice cereal after you have defrosted. As your baby is wanting your food, add more flavour or mix some of your food with it.

Happy cooking.

Great Thread!!, I cook everything for my DD's in big lots and freeze them. I'm not one either for jars infact neither have ever had anything but home made. Thanks for starting it, I look forward to getting some more recipes !

Jamie Oliver did a great kids food article in a Delicious Mag earlier this year and my girls love the below recipe from him.

1 small onion
1 small leek
stick of celery
1 zuccini
1/2 red capsicum
200g (1/4) butternut pumpkin grated
800g tinned tomatos
salt peper italian herbs to taste

In a deep frypan or saucepan heat up a good splash of olive oil. Add onion, leek, celery, zuccini and capsicum and cook for about 10 mins with the lid on stirring occasionally until softened. Add grated pumpkin cook with the lid off for about 5 mins until pumpkin is soft and mushy. Add tomatos, stir through season to taste the put lid on and cook for about 20-30 mins. Puree to as liquid or chunky as you like.

I use this as a pasta sauce, add fish or chicken with some coucous or use it as a tomato sauce over organic sausages. My girls love it and they are getting heaps of vegies! Also when people hear you are serving Jamie Oliver to your kids they think you are a wonder cook!! LOL!!!

And here's a recipe while i'm here!!

1 large zucchini,diced
1 red capsicum,diced
400g tinned crushed tomatoes
410g canned corn kernels

Cook capsicum in medium frypan for about 3 min. Add zucchini and corn and cook for another 3 min. Turn heat to low and add tomatoes and simmer for app. 15 mins. Blend vegies till smooth.

I freeze the mixture in ice cubes then put them in containers once frozen. I mix it with rice/pasta and whatever meat I have out. Joels been having this for a while now and still loves it!

Great thread

Just wondering - my DD is a week shy of 6 months, can she have the things posted so far?
She's been on solids for over a month, but just really basic stuff, like carrots, zuchini, apples, pears, pumpkin, y'know..

I'd love to make her some more tasty things, I'm just a bit clueless about adding onion, garlic, MEAT, that sorta thing..
