Hiya

Hubby and I are looking in to purchasing prams and we are interested in getting one that is able to have a toddler seat attachment. Our baby #1 is due in April and will probably be 2 1/2 - 3 years old by the time we TTC #2 so we are thinking toddler seats might be a good idea.

I'd just like to hear back from people who have toddler seats and what they think of them. Are they worthwhile? Did you get plenty of use out of them? What kind of pram did you buy that had a toddler seat attachment?

Thanks in advance

Jessie

They are SO worth it!! Jacob was 15mths old when Brooke was born, so too young to walk everywhere on his own. Not because he lacked energy, he had plenty of that and would go on 6km bushwalks with his dad, but because of the running off issue.

I had an IGC "Scandinavia" pram, I don't believe they make them anymore. The toddler seat was only designed to hold up to 17kg, which Jacob weighed at 2.5yrs. But I kept him in it till he was 3 and about 22kg.

I walked everywhere, about 4km a day, so it was good to have him in there when I needed to, though I would let him walk at times. If he got tired, I'd pop him in the back, and Brooke in the toddler seat.

Hi there, i can't answer your question as i haven't used a toddler seat but i just wanted to advise you that if you do end up getting a pram that has a toddler seat, buy the toddler seat at the same time. I was checking prams out the other day and the shop assistant was saying that because prams change so frequently ie styles and designs that if you leave it for later, often they are unavailable.

Our DD will be 2.5 when bubs comes along and we are getting one of the skateboard thingys that she will be able to stand on attached to the pram. She likes to walk most of the time, plus we have a mountain buggy that doesn't have a toddler seat available, so wasn't an option for us.

Don't mean to hijack your thread missbehave but would it be worth getting a toddler seat for a 27 month old? (thats how old DD will be when number 2 comes along) Or would it be better to get a skateboard thingy? And can these skateborad thingys be attached to any pram?

Thanks!

I'm looking into getting a twin pram.....I'll have a newborn and an almost 3yr old. I want one, simply because DS2 can't handle long distances like DS1 could, plus he is a runner. A twin pram would make grocery shopping so much easier too.

Yea, my DD likes to walk around, but I can just imagine pushing a pram and running after her  Think i'll need a toddler seat

Sorry missbehave, we are kinda hijacking

cmd'smum - For us, i think the skateboard will be a better option. As i said DD walks most of the time. I guess it depends on your child and how much time they spend in the pram. I also plan to wear my newborn in a hugabub for the first few months, so DD will be even older. As angel_kisses said a twin pram will work for her. I've spoken to a few people re the skateboard and had good reports on them. They are suppose to fit 'most' prams, you would have to double check.

Hrmm.. thinking about it now, I don't think we'll bother with buying a pram that has a toddler seat. Baby #1 will almost be 3 when #2 arrives so I think she can either toddle beside me or I might look into a skateboard attachment.

Thank you everyone though for your input!

(Mods - thread can now be closed if you want)

I think they're pretty good, we have a pram with a toddler seat to use when the new bubba arrives, we actually already use it sometimes when we go shopping, we put Hayley in the toddler seat (she loves it coz she loves being up high) and put the shopping in the pram part.

Also you can attach and re-attach when/if you've only got one child with you.

The only thing I don't like about mine is that its a bit too bulky, we have another smaller pram (which we use now for Hayley) and its really light but its not one that can use a toddler seat.

DS will be 2.5 when Bubba#2 arrives so Im really considering a pram with toddler seat. DS is small for his age (he only weighs 10.5kg at 22months) so he'll be able to sit in a toddler seat for awhile and his little legs cant handle all the walking we do. '

Does anyone have a really good pram with toddler seat. I was in the plaza the other day and saw a really compact Valco 3 wheeler with toddler seat. It wasn't as bulky as some I'd seem. Does anyone have one?

To be honest, I'd be cautious about a 3 wheeler with a toddler seat, they don't look at all stable, especially if the toddler were to lean to one side or something.

This is my opinion of toddler seats.....

We had a three wheeler with a toddler seat and found it to be an absolute nightmare. I found the pram to be incredibly difficult to steer, even on flat ground in a shooping centre. The first(and only) time i took it for a walk I felt like it was going to topple everytime I had to turn a corner. Going by my experience, they should be taken off the market! It really annoys me that there aren't really any great options out there for people with two kids that need to be in a pram. We ended up buying a phil and teds which is FANTASTIC. I had heard about them, but wasn't keen, but now we have one I love it. It is compact(when folded as well), so, so easy to manouver and I feel confident that it is safe and that both kids are comfortable.

My Ds2 is 4mths and Ds1 is 2.5 we get by with a skate board on the pram if he was younger I might get a seat but he is happy to walk and ride his skateboard providing the trip isn't too long. Most of the time DH comes with us and we take two trolleys one in each.

I have the Phil and Ted with toddlerseat, dont use it as much as a double cause my 4yr old walks all the time, but f he legs get tired she jumps in to rest!

I wouldnt reccommend the valco as its too unstable with the toddlerseat up high over the front wheel it would also make it heavy to steer. I find mine a dream to steer with 30+ kgs in it and its so stable with the toddlerseat being at a bit of an angle not over the front wheel.

my son will be two when i have my bubs in a few wks time and im looking at either buying the valco runabout with the toddler seat or the phil and ted pram. i wouldnt even consider a skateboard to go on the back as i feel my son would just as likely run off from it.

I thought my son would run off from the skateboard thing too. So I've got a Bertini shuttle stroller with toddler seat...

The seat goes up to 15kg and he loves it - he can see all.

I guess it all depends on how much you walk. Most of my walks are around 7km and there's no way my little man could do that. It is heaps easier to push without the seat (but then again when you put 13kg on the front of the pram it has to make a difference).

The convenience of having both kids contained in one pram is great.
