View Full Version : Stabbing Pain down low!

Hi,
I am 24 weeks pregnant and for the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing an unusual pain in my pubic bone. I find that it is worse through the night and usually notice it most when I get up out of bed to go to the toilet. It is a little hard to explain but it is kind of an ache right up into my pubic bone (definately feels like an ache in the bone rather than muscle or tissue). I would think that the baby would be too small and/or not far enough down to cause this sort of ache but I may be wrong.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or would know what causes it. I suppose I am most worried about the fact that I am only 24 weeks and the bigger the baby gets the worse it may get.
Sorry if TMI.
Thanks and take care.

YES!!! How weird is it?!!?
It usually happens to me after sex (especially through the day- if Dh gets lucky in the AM He he). Not so much at night!
Very strange!

HI jackieb76,
Im 32 weeks and experienced the pain you are describing and after finally demanding a better answer then just ligament pain from my Dr as I had been pg before and knew this was more than ligament pain I was diagnosed with Symphasys Pubis Diastisis.
There are a few threads on the SPD in the Pregnancy Health section of Bub Hub forums.

I have had this since about 32 weeks and I totally sympathise - it is very uncomfortable. I find that freestlye in the pool helps - you just feel weightless and don't have to open your legs which is when it hurts the most. I get to the point at the end of the day where it feels like everything is falling out of me - hard to describe but not very nice! My midwife suggests a plastic bag on the car seat (not nice in this hot sticky weather) to help "swivel" on so you can keep your legs together. She also said that it can take up to 12 weeks to get "better" after the birth too.... which did nothing to cheer me up! :( I agree with Becky that sex also sets it off a bit...
Good Luck!

Thank you ladies for your responses.
It is definately so much worse at night as soon as I go to bed. I can feel it during the day but it is much milder. I sleep with a pillow between my knees but to turn over I need to keep my knees pressed together otherwise it really hurts.
I have booked in to see my GP on Monday so will be interested to hear what he says about it. From what I have heard a lot of GP's will just brush if off as normal and just ligaments stretching.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences and thoughts.
Jackie :)
