Ive booked in to the hospital after deciding to go Public (Went private and had an OB with DS but with no probs didnt feel it was necessary). I just found out that I can't get an appointment at the antenatal clinic till Im 19weeks!!!
Now I had a VERY easy pregnancy with DS and Im not a worrying person so although it doesnt bother me all that much, it just seems like forever away! I'll be able to find out my babies sex then!
Ive already had an ultrasound so I know everythings ok but I just can't believe that I'll be waiting so long to see my baby again:crying:
Does anyone else have to wait this long?

I had my first visit at 15-16 weeks it was a booking in kind of visit, lotsa paper work, bloods taken and a little scan to check the heartbeat.
My next one is the 18th Dec and I will be 20 weeks, this is with the KYM clinic and will see a midwife.

oh steph I know what you mean.
I had an appt with GP at 6 weeks and he told me to come back 1 week after NT scan so total of 7 weeks in between visits. I didnt get a dating scan either so I havent seen bub yet or heard heart beat, doesnt seem real yet.
Can you see your GP before then to check levels and also heart beat?

i do my antenatal at bankstown hospital, they can get very busy. when i called them up a few weeks ago they could only give me a date next year when i was 16 weeks so i know how you feel.
luckily for me though they called me back and re-booked me and i had my first appointment last week but i think that was because i had a complicated pregnancy and labour last time and they wanted to do all the tests early this time (like the GTT test coz i had GD last time)
it'll be worth the wait so dont worry so much..:D

That is what happened when I had DS. I forget how many weeks exactly, but I remember complaining that it was too long. Maybe 16 or 18 weeks-ish.
I'd better book in tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.

i am booked in for 27th december when i am 12 weeks, was lucky enough to get case loading so i will have the midwife i like.
This has gone over my head a little.
Is your antenatal appt different to your antenatal classes???
Do you go to the hospital for your antenatal appt if you arent seeing an Ob?

Yeah the hospital have an antenatal clinic where u see midwives but they also have Ob's just in case (high risk). Your meant to see them the same as u'd see an Ob, once a month, then later on fortnightly then weekly but they just can't seem to get u in in the beginning.
I won't do antenatal classes because my lil man was only born 22months ago.....I still remember the little things.

Steph are you going for a 12 wk ultrasound? I am not seeing my midwives till January sometime, she said she would give me a call when it gets closer. But in the mean time, I am seeing my doctor to get referrals for ultrasounds and checking blood pressure and he will be doing a blood test next week.
TJ - I didn't see an Ob at all with DS2, I saw midwives the whole time. With DS1 I had one app with a ob, because I was overdue and he booked me in to be induced. There was an Ob, at the end of DS1 labour only because there was complications.

I never saw an ob with either of mine, straight to the middies who looked after me the whole time.
But the very first appointment is with an ob, thats when you select what type of care you want the rest of the time.

When I rang the hospital and they told me I couldnt get in till 19weeks they never mentioned any ultrasounds or anything. All they said is if u don't feel good, see ur gp to get checked out asap.
I just spoke to a fellow bubhubber who is also at Nepean and she said that I should have been told I can book myself in at the hospital for my 12week ultrasound.....would've been nice if they let me know on the phone.
Oh well at least I won't have to wait as long to see my baby!
