The cachous are the little round balls - you find them in the baking section - usually with the 100's and 1000's and other decorating bits & pieces.

I'm going to try & have a go as well - time depending!

Is it this Sunday it closes (the 10th December)?

These are mine. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/jasminesmum/kids2006001.jpg

I tried very hard to make mine into trees. They just wouldn't stay in that shape.
I put my biscuits into my blender and wizzed them up. I think they were too fine. Maybe I should of just crushed them with a rolling pin.
Oh and another thing, the chocolate sets REALLY quickly so I would do them one at a time and put your decorations on as soon as the chocolate goes on.

Was very messy but fun. My ds enjoyed helping me.
He took them to school for his break-up party and everyone loved them.

mine are in the fridge but i will decorate them tomorrow. mixture tastes nice but very hard to mould into trees, mine are more like clumps.

i think if i was to do it again i wouldnt use the honey as i think honey and condensed milk made it too sticky. Hope they look better when i decorate them.

I'll be making mine this week but will be avoiding trees. I'll just roll into balls I think!

BTW, I also won't be adding the honey as under 12 monthers might be eating them - I'm sure the recipe will work without it because I have a similar one for chocolate balls.

sugar n spice - they look pretty damn good to me!
has anyone successfully shaped them into trees yet or is it just impossible? :p

Wondermum
10-12-2006, 09:37 PM
I had great fun making these esp the decorating part!!!

Initially I thought I would run into some trouble trying to shape them into trees, so I did a little thinking and *PING* 'ice cream cones' to mold them into their tree shape! Once I made the mixture it seemed to mold well just by hand... so I made a few by hand, some with ice cream cones - so they have the wafer cone on the outside and the last few I had peeled the cone off and decorated.

Sooo here is the finished product... Gwwd they taste yummy!!!! Should have taken a shot of DH and DS1 face... Christmas has come early

wondermum.....thank you, my kids just saw your pictures, and were saying "i want this i want this".......were they hard to make

Oh no B-J.... you're gonna have to make them now :D

No, they weren't too hard at all and I loved the no baking part! Just take your frustrations out on the bickies B-J  and throw in the other ingredients, stuff into the cones, and then comes the best part.... decorate with choc melts and whatever else - coconut, hundreds of thousands, choc bits... wha-laa :wizard: You may not need the cones - I actually didn't as the mixture was the right texture to shape but I started stuffing the cones before I attempted to do them by hand. They taste really nice with the wafer around the chocolate cookie mix tho.

OMG wondermum I ran crying to DP about how wonderful yours are and theres no way I can beat that!

I made some(not for the bake off) & the secret is to put the mix in the fridge for a little bit, it then molds so easy(just need some firm hands) you could do a swan shape if you really wanted to:D
They are yummy but I did my dash with them & will never eat one ever again:laughing:

*Edited to add~If you pop them on baking paper in blobs then pop them in the fridge, they will be easier to mould again once they have set a little*

How did everyone crush their biscuits? (I used NICE btw)
I did mine with a potato masher because I didn't know what else to use :o
I need one of those granite/marble/stone grinder things....:detective:

First batch I used a rolling pin and bashed.

Second I food processed.

I actually prefer the rolling pin method - its nice to get big chunks of bikky in them.
