Im currently using disposable nappies but have been reading on bubhub about the modern cloth nappies. I feel like I'm missing out on something and want to find out more about cloth. Also, I wouldn't mind saving some money as I spend around $30 per week on nappies. I looked at some of the websites and decided to buy a couple of Green kids to see how they go but the hemp inserts are sold out. I was wondering what the prefold inserts are like? Are they just as good? That's al they have at the moment. Im assuming I'd need a size medium for an 8 week old baby?

I use the Pre-fold Hemparoos and find them great! :D

At first I thought they were stupid, because they didn't work well, but I boiled them for 20 minutes and they work a charm :)

I got size large for my boy (since about 6 weeks...) because I'm a tight-**** and hate to spend more money than I should. They were a bit bulky on him but not so bad now. :0

Hey! I emailed GK about 2 days ago and they said the inserts had just come in and would have them on the net very soon

Prefold inserts - it's what I use as I use Peapods - no problems here. Not sure what size you'd need though as Peapods only have the one size insert.

Phineas- they came on the net and then look like they've sold out again???

Coz I ordered mine about 3 days ago and they're on their way now... :detective:

With the cloth inserts, are they better than prefolds and why? Do they need to be boiled aswell? With the night-time booster, wouldn't that make the nappy incredibly bulky?

hemp needs to be boiled - or given lots of hot washes - so it's natural oils which repel water get out of the fabric and allow it's SUPER SOAKING powers to be seen!

Cloth nappies are bulky to begin with. I have Cobes in 'sposies at night as he resembles a roly-poly doll when I put in all the nighttime boosters.

Sold out again! Whoa!

Leilasmummy - you might not have to boil them, jsut wash them plenty of times before using and see how you go.
Yep, it gets a bit bulky but still way slimmer than using terry-towelling nappies. The bubs never seem to mind :)

Hey Lisa,

When you say the cloth inserts, I assume you mean the hourglass shaped ones on the GK website? If so - I've got 2 of these and the rest of my inserts are the hemparoo prefolds. TBH, when they're IN the nappy I can't even tell the difference. Its only when I'm pailing them that I realise that she had an hourglass one in.....they last as long, are as absorbant etc. I don't really notice any difference to the bulkiness of the nappy either, though.

I've never heard of boiling the hemp - I just washed all my inserts on a HOT wash 3 times before using them in the nappies, for a littel while they weren't TERRIBLY absorbant - but over the course of hte next month or so, became really really good....

HTH :)

Thanks for your help ladies!

Im glad I didn't buy them last night because I just went on the GK website and ALL nappies are $19.50 each!:smiliedance: I bought 2 anytimes, 1 funtimes and 3 hemparoo inserts. I'm going to see how they go, then I'll buy more if they work for me.

BTW, I was out with my MIL today and I told her I was going to buy some cloth nappies. She looked at me as if I was crazy and said WHY???? I'm finding alot of people have this 'why bother' reaction.

They did the same thing to me! BUT, when they see the nappies irl, they say 'what a great idea'!!

There are still some who just roll their eyes, and wish I would shut up about the nappies, lol!

Congratulations for making a great decision to try cloth! Yes, you are missing out on something if your not using them, lol ;)

That's a total of 4 october 06 mummies who use cloth now!

BTW... I don't really like GK on Olivia, I find them huge, but every bub is different. I use Baby beehinds on Olivia. I think that as she gets bigger that the gk will work better. That is a great price though!

Let us know how you go!
