Yep, if pup isn't underweight twice a day would be fine... but I usd to give my pup some puppy milk in between meals too until she was about 6 months old.

i used to feed my pupp at the time(now fuly grown) 3 times a day she was underweight and found it easier to give her 3 small feeds a day than 1-2 large feeds,i done this till about 6 months then it was once a day.

Hi,
3 times a day is the recommendation but if you work and are only able to feed twice a day it will not affect your dog in the long term especially if you are feeding a good quality diet, at around 6 months you can go onto twice daily or once daily.

:yelclap: my puppies are SOOO lucky! They get fed a huge meal of chicken necks at night time...then followed by a bone for them to chew on. I t put dry biscuits in there bowl just before bed, which they don't seem to eat. In the morning they have a munch on there bone from night before, I give them a bowl of milk before I leave for work... by the time i am home, all biscuits are gone.....
They have fat little tummys...with so much energy they are very well fed!
Forgot to add the little treats DH and i give them when we are training them too! ;-):)

It also depends on the breed. Our puppy is a 16 week old great dane, they are prone to bloat so it's recommended they get fed 3 times a day up until they're one year old!!

hi,
I am a vet nurse so I will quickly go through some do's and don'ts in regards to diet
1. do not give dogs milk they are lactose itolerant and they are weaned for a reason if you have to give them milk give them lactose free milk.

2. biscuits are the best thing for them they are totally balanced and if you feed a good quality biscuit you should not need to give anything else.

3. chicken necks are good for small breeds that chew but for larger breeds they are not, they are suggested to help keep dogs teeth clean large dogs tend to swallow them not chew them.

4. no dog will starve itself if it is not eating biscuits it is filling up on other things if you only offer the biscuits they will eventually eat them

5. dogs can go up to a week without eating, in the wild they generally go days without eating.

6. be careful not to overfeed your dogs as obesity is a big problem with dogs, if they are not eating everytihng int here bowl or they are burying food you are feeding too much.

7. make sure they get something hard to eat eg biscuits or bones, especially small breeds as they are prone to dental problems

That's it for now I could go on all day

My beagle puppy gets fed 2 times a day his total days diet is 1 1/4 cups of Eukanuba...and I actually take out his treats from that and also sometimes will only feed him once in the evening if we going for a walk to the dog park - then he works for the rest of the days food. He occasionally has rawhide bones and even more occasionally maybe once has had a real big bone.
I just follow the instructions on the pack of Eukanuba.
I have seen too many working style dogs or hounds obese basically cos they get a human diet or too many meals...and too little exercise :( Labradors and Beagles seem to be one of the worst breeds you see about where people just overfeed and dont exercise...I think it cos they look at you with those cute eyes!!
My family have always worked their spaniels and labs as retrievers and ok some of you may think the reduced amount of food not enough and that they should have scraps but these animals never overfed and always look in the peak condition coats, teeth, eyes and live a lot longer and with less disease.
JMO. :D

totally agree mytillieroo, we euthanase so many dogs due to obesity related illness, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis etc it is such a shame, sometimes you ahve to be cruel to be kind, we had a client that killed her dog, she shared a box of chocolates with her chihuahua and 4 hrs later the dog was dead she was heart broken. It makes me so mad when i see obese dogs because we control their diet

Dogs should get free access to water all the time
