Ergo carrier - feedback?

Hi all,

I'm looking into getting an Ergo.

What are everyone's experiences with this carrier, positive and negative?

Also, it looks really difficult to put on... is it?

I loved it, baby hated it. My loss, someone on ebay's gain.

A bit tricky to get onto the back, would probably get easier with more practice.

No negatives here, I have had two (the classic and the New Generation) and LOVED them both and have got heaps of use out of them. My son is about 17kg and I can still comfortably carry him in there.

Oh, the one negative with the NG Ergo is that it is also designed to do a hip carry... it does ok, but is not that comfortable for long periods.

They take a bit of getting used to to get them on your back, but once you have done it a few times it becomes really easy - it takes me less than two minutes to get on :)

I have one and love it (the original one not the new generation). I have yet to use it with my newborn (mainly because he is only 13 days old and we haven't been out that much) but with my 2 year old it was great - both on the front and then when she was older on my back. It took a few goes to get used to putting it on for back carrying but once we had the hang of it we were fine. She loved being able to sit on my back and be close to me but still see everything. I particularly liked it for travelling - I have carried a sleeping 18 month old on my front, retrieved luggage, cleared customs and entertained a 3 year old all at the same time without a hitch and without ending up with a sore back. The only downside I would say is that it is hard to put the head flap on a sleeping child on your back without another person to help you.

I have a NG Ergo. I wear it on my back, and have never found it difficult to get on and off.
The only time I have had difficulty is once when I tried to wear it on the front, I couldn't reach around to do up the clip at the back, and without the clip done up, it kept falling off my shoulders.

Still well worth the cash though!

I found that to when I first tried it on my front but then I realised I can just move the clips to within reach before I put it on!

The trick for the back strap when you are putting it on the front is to do it up before you put it on and slip it over your head with the arm straps very loose, then tighten up after baby is in.

I ended up not getting the newborn insert - I have an incredibly long baby and have a short torso and we just couldn't get him to fit that way, so have a hugabub style carrier until he is big enough for the ergo - so now I have two great carrying systems!

I bought an ergo the other day online and I sent it back for an exchange because i hated the colour (went with camel - and it was a bit Granny Undies!). Anyway, I did try my DS in it very briefly on the front, and it felt like his legs were supposed to be spread very wide across my torso. Is that how they're supposed to be? It seemed a bit uncomfortable...?

They are actually sitting with their legs wrapped around you, so yes - they will be spread wide - but they are quite comfy like that.

We have an NG Ergo and love it. I use it for back wears (sooo easy to get on by yourself) but the odd time I've worn it as a front carry I just pulled the back strap up high and then I could do it up really easy!

My only problem with it is that is is rather ugly looking...when you compare it to Mei Tai's etc.
