View Full Version : Baby Capsule Causes Vomitting?

:( Almost everytime I put my 3 month old in the baby capsule she vomits.

Its happens as soon as I place her in the capsule, we don't even get the car started! Its not just a little vomit either, she ususally ejects her entire stomach contents and gets quite distressed, the capsule is soaked and we end up not going out. The days that she doesn't vomit immediately and we actually make it onto the road I can still hear her making little pre-vomit gulping sounds and I just pray that we make it to our destination.
I don't thinks she's car sick as most times the car isn't even running when it happens and if we do make it out and she doesn't vomit she's fine, she doesn't cry or fuss. My husband has a convertible car seat in his car and so far (touch wood) she hasn't ever vomitted in that, so I really think it must be something about the capsule.
I'm getting so frustrated that I'm off to buy another car seat this weekend and am going to ditch the capsule, in the hope that we can actually get out of the house and I can stop cancelling all my plans and appointments.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

That sounds a bit weird.... is it a hired capsule? Does it have a sheepskin thing in it? Maybe there's a smell that she doesn't like....

Is it possible that to get her into the capsule you have to manipulate her in some way that's putting pressure on her tummy? It might be the capsule or just the difference in access between the two cars.

You could try taking the capsule out and put her into it when it's just on the floor to see how she handles it.

Does she suffer from Reflux or silent reflux? It may be the position she is in, capsules make bubs fairly scrunched up. My DS suffers from silent reflux and hates the capsule as it makes his stomach acid bubble up his throat.

It's weird isn't it - She doesn't suffer from reflux or anything like that. There's also no sheepskin inside the capsule its just the regular capsule from the ambulance. I've been washing the lining with the same laundry detergent I do her clothes with so I don't think it would be the smell. I don't think my car interior has any strange smell either. I've found that I can't put the capsule into the car when she's in it as I have to tip on an angle to get it in (not much room in the back seat) so I have to lower her into it in the car.
I do tend to agree with you Kez, she does look very uncomfortable and kind of hunched over in there. I was also wondering if maybe it could be a bit clostrophobic (?spelling) in there.
Its awful when you're driving along and you can hear them vomit. I've had to pull over on the freeway many times to make sure she's ok. I'm getting a new seat on the weekend but we have to go to a Dr's appointment tomorrow so I just hope she makes it there without a big mess.
