Having 1st Scan soon! @ 8wks, Q's..

I am having my first scan done really soon, and a bit anxious! dont know what to expect and does it have to be an internal scan - sounds like it hurts! Would they try to do a tummy scan at 8wks? Also i am feeling so tubby already, anyone else??!! my lower belly has decided to say a promient Hello! isnt this too early?!!

Hiya Alleykat,

I went for my 8 week scan today and had no internal scan. So, yes they can still see bubs with an external ultrasound. Depending on who you see is whether or not you will get an internal or external ultrasound. Every Doc is dfferent.

My tummy has also popped out and my OB was happy with that and said it was normal with consequent pregnancies. If it's your first your probably more bloated than anything.

yep just what chicco said! no need to do an internal u/s at all so dont stress.. i had one of those this time around but only coz i thought i was over 5 weeks and turns out i was only 4 so we couldnt quite see the heart beat just a little dot hehe.
they're not painful more so uncomfortable. but are definately clearer!! i remember going to see my dr and the last lady he'd seen had had an internal u/s and it was like the bubby was doing a 'spider man' :laughing: all bubs arms and legs were out and it was facing the scan thingy.. gorgeous pic! that was done when the lady was 9weeks preg.

I had an internal scan at 12 weeks as bubs was in an awkward position!

Actually, I preferred it, it wasnt painful just a bit uncomfortable but not nearly as bad as having a full bladder and someone pressing down on it!

It was very discreet as well, just popped on a robe and they used it without having to look at my bits and pieces!

I had an internal scan because of my tilted uterus. It wasn't painful. More comfortable than a PS.
my husband thinks the belly i have is the winter layer rather than the baby, but i swear I'm popping a little bit. It's probably bloating
