Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have had a baby after having a blood clot, and what was the treatment etc.

Although im not 100% sure if i am expecting,i think i may be,and two years ago i was in hospital for 10 days with a dvt in my leg(cause unknown)
I am going to the doctor tomorrow, but thought i would see if anyone knows a little bit about it here while i am waiting.
I was taking asprin since coming off warfarin, but had to have clexane injections daily for a while first.

In october 05 i had to have a blood transfusion after complications with the warfarin.

I hope this all makes sense.....

I had a blood clot in my shoulder at age 16, no known cause. Repeative injury suspected. I have had 2 babies since.

They did repeat bloods and again found no cause for clotting so during pregnancy there was no treatment. Post birth when the clot risk is higher I had Clexane injections daily for 6 weeks.

I have a friend who has Factor 5 and she injects Clexane throughout her whole pregnancy and TTC. Wafarin at other times. AS you shouldn't have wafarin whilst pregnant. Not sure about Aspirin though.

Hope that helps.

i know how u feel 4 months after having bub i got a clot in my lung and was on Wafarin 4 6months and my doc said that i will have to have some meds so i don't clot when i give birth as when u have had a clot it is more likely to get one again.

I had a DVT in my shoulder also - when I was about 22. It was caused by a cervical rib which blocked my vein after I did a very strenuous (and I should add, very badly-taught) yoga class. Sarah81 - that was almost certainly the cause of yours, just incidentally. Apparently about 10 percent of the population has this wonky rib, and it tends to block the vein up near the shoulder and cause a DVT in people like swimmers, tennis players etc. Anyone who uses their arm repetitively, or in my case, at a really stupid angle without warming up!

Anyway, Jody, the question you need to find out is what your blood clotting factors are like. These are a very long, complicated set of numbers that determine whether you have a predisposition towards blood clots, or whether your clot was caused by a mechanical reason (such as a bone blocking the vein, like mine).

If your blood clotting factors are worrying, they will probably put you on clexane for your pregnancy. You'll have to give yourself an injection in the stomach daily. It sounds a lot worse than it is - the needle is the same sort diabetics use, and it just goes into the fat in your stomach so it's really not painful. Oh, I just read down - you've done it so you know.

YOur doctor will get very excited and concerned about the mix of blood clot and pregnancy. If it does turn out to be because of a clotting problem, then you must do everything they tell you to. BUT if they can find nothing wrong with your clotting factors, do not let them talk you into taking clexane or warfarin or anytihng else. I battled long and hard to convince the doctors at my hospital that my clotting factors were fine, but they still pushed for me to go onto clexane to be on the safe side (ie to cover their arses) - I had to get quite cross to tell them to leave me alone!

Good luck - I'm sure that if everyone is fully aware of all the possible complications, that you will be looked after well. Let us know how you go. :hugs:

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I had tons of tests, and no reason was found my 2 dvts and one probable pe.(just lucky...LOL)
It turns out i was pregnant, but unfortunately had to have a d and c on jan 6 as baby had no heartbeat and an irregular sac.I ended up in agony,as there was a big retained clot inside and i felt like i was in labour until my body passed it.At first the docs thought it could be a clot in the veins of my stomach,so i was back on the clexane, but am now just on asprin.

I did post in the when are you due in the aug 07 about my m/c,and i have been on a rollercoaster of emotions.

I do feel a bit better now.

Take care everyone
XOXOXOX
