ok .... I am feeling sick to my stomach right now...

I had one of those days where you should just have stayed in bed!!!

1) got dressed to go to the Drs... thought - hang on (STUPID!!!!) I have time to sweep outside (friends coming over) - swept.. went to move a paint can and covered myself ll over with rusty water... so I got changed into my LAST clean maternity outfit!!!

2) Went to get in the car - looked at the dog- and noticed that his eye was funny... on closer inspection I saw a tick  I rang a vet friend (who lives MILES away) - he is great help on the phone though... and managed to calm myself enough to follow his instructions to remove it- patted puppy... drove REALLY fast to the store to get a new tick collar....

3) bolted to the OBs - went to the bathroom (of course!!!) - only to spray all over my shirt with the soap dispenser!!! (dont ask me how... it is a special talent!!!) - went to the appointment,.... explained my shirt (so that it wasnt DIRTY... just a mess!!!!) hmmm blood pressure up :( (probably due to the visions of the vet bill!!!)

4) went home... massive rain... scary thunder... and a not-energetic dog..

5) stressed all afternoon... DH finally conceded that the dog is not well... and has just taken him to an all - night vet... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

:( I love my dog.... but we are on one wage... and bubs is due in two and a bit weeks..... I HATE stress.... and the baby obviously doesn't like it either... just the word dog makes bubs do somersalts....

sad...

oh jenny you poor thing, what a terrible day you have had (((HUGS))) i am a dog person too, and it must be upsetting you heaps that your dog is unwell, and of course the stress of the money that will probably have to come out of thin air ( i know what its like to be on one wage, hard to save much for a rainy day) have you heard back from hubby about the dog, or is he still at the vet with him? some days you just wish you could crawl back in bed and start over....

Hope your dog is ok and that all is well - I know what its like with unexpected vet bills they always seem to happen at the wrong times - just before christmas last year my cat got cystitis which involved emergency surgery to unblock him - $700 dollars which was basically my money to last till my next pay at the time and buy christmas presents - though the best christmas pres was that he pulled through all ok....

We all have days I think where nothing seems to go right sometimes - things tend to happen in 3's you notice...

Veve: Look after your dog and the universe will look after your vet bill.
It just happens that way.
Paralysis ticks are really really dangerous and it may take your dog weeks if not longer to recover....(in your home of course..not at the vets..phew!!)

Hi!
Talk to the vets about the bill. Depending on which emergency vet you went to (was it the AEC at Underwood??) they might be able to let you pay it off. It costs more at the Emergency Centres, so if you can, try and get the dog trasferred to your regular vet asap, that will reduce the cost for you slightly.
Good luck and I hope your dog is ok!! Try to stay calm and keep that BP down. :)

ok guys - it is a new day.... and I am DETERMINED it is going to be better!!!!

- thanks for listening to my rant !!

- and thanks for all the positive support!!! - :) made me smile...

Oliversmum - we DID go to the AEC at underwood!!! (you are clever!!! - I hadn't heard of them till last night!!) - and they let us pay half last night... and half later... I LOVE places that are happy to do payment plans!! - I mean we all love our animals... and it just reduces stress!

pup isn't out of the woods yet - but has had the serum... (he is a sad looking thing!!! - but being a Jack Russell... he isn't smart enough to LIE STILL to get better!!!he considers 'bed' a punishment - he wants to PATROL HIS TERRITORY!!! ) - they wanted to keep him in overnight... but the bill was double if he stayed.. so DH watched over him all night instead...

hopefully he will improve today -otherwise... back to the vets we go!!!

thanks so much guys :)

I am so glad today is better for you than yesterday. I'm also glad you little Jacky is doing ok. If you find he is getting unwell again, I would take him to your regular vet as it will be heaps cheaper for you than the AEC. They can ask the AEC to fax your normal vet the dogs history.
I used to be a vet nurse at a small clinic. At this time of year we would get at least one tick dog / cat a day. They are so rampant after some heat and rain.
My dog has some weird un-diagnosible disease and we had to spend $2500 on her at the specialist. This was before children and other expences though. To be honest I don't know what we would do if it happened now.
Have a great day!! :)

You poor thing, glad your feeling a little better though. I can totally relate. Last year when 1 was 3 months pregnant, & 2 weeks before our wedding our 12 year old Border Collie got a tick. We found him in the morning, back legs paralysed. He had to stay for 4 days due to fitting (he's epileptic) so BIG $$$

He got through it fine in the end, still around though it has affected him. We spoke to the vet and they allowed us to pay it off at $20 a week, more if we could.

Goodluck, hope they'll let you pay it off

omg the same thing happened to me except that it was 1 week after i had bubs. came downstairs to find dog with paralysis!!!! major panic! rang dad to borrow $$ for the vet (the beauty of non paid maternity leave! :( Had to stuff 30 kg dog into front seat of v small car- the back seat has a baby seat and a toddler seat and enough room left for a paddle pop if you are lucky  that was a major effort with 3rd deg tear in delicate parts and anemia.!! luckily we had racq pet insurance which covered up to $500. We told the vet that much as we love Buster if the bill got over 500 then we would have to say goodbye- i know that may sound awful but it was a choice between him or paying the rent and buying groceries. The bill was 499.99!!! he was in hospital for 4 days. Hes back to his usual tricks now though but it was an awful day for me!
