Hi Guys
I am nearly 17weeks and am having trouble sleeping. Just wondering if anyone else is having any trouble and whether they have found anything (except the pillow idea) that helps. Its not so much uncomfortable, just unable to get to sleep and stay that way. Also I get alot of trouble with sinus and hayfever, does anyone have any suggestions there too?

Bri44 - aw it sucks doesn't it? This was the only bit of pregnancy that I never enjoyed. I can only sleep comfortably with a pillow under my belly and unfortunately DH gets in the road when I try to lay on my left hand side so to compensate I end up sleeping all night on my right hand side which then makes me numb. For short term sinus my OB said that I could take phenergan or polaramine - but only the ones that make you drowsy, no anti-drowsy solutions allowed. You could try some eucalyptus oil on a tissue in your pillow case.

no trouble getting TO sleep... but staying asleep is another matter. especially when i get up at about 4am to go to the loo - i'm usually hungry as well, so i snack and sit up for a bit... and then can't get back to sleep! argh!
i'm getting a body pillow i think... something i can mold myself around.

I'm having the same problem as you Miss Ani. DH gets up at 4.30am to go for a run and I just can't go back to sleep. Bubs wriggles around so I lay there feeling him for a while, then get up for the toilet, then I'm wide awake. DH is going to buy me one of those pillows for Christmas I think. Daylight savings is also mucking me around, I am going to sleep an hour later cos it's still light outside. Just need to get used to that I suppose!

I'm having trouble getting to sleep, not that i'm uncomfortable - just my brain won't switch off:banghead: Once i'm asleep the only problem i have with staying asleep is that DS wakes up about 3 times a night and then i have to go through the going to sleep thing over again! Even just 1 whole nights sleep would be good  I seem to sleep better when DH is on night shift though - i get the whole bed to myself and can spread out:D

That's the problem I've had lately, I wake up in the night for the loo and "ping" wide awake even though I am soooooooooooooo tired! Takes me ages to nod back off.. :(

I've been ok lately, though last night I couldn't sleep for some reason.

im am really tired all the time, but i usually sleep on my tummy, which i cant do anymore, and plus my dh just started snoring again, he lost a heap of weight, so i think that contributed to it.
i really dread the night time atm. im sleeping better during the day while my kids have their nap, and this is on the lounge.

I sleep on my tummy too but it is starting to get a little squishy now LOL so I get my tri pillow and wedge it between my legs and a little under my tum so my tum can rest on it LOL and I sleep half on tum/side.

It is so nice to hear that I'm not the only on that can't shut my brain off at night. I was bad enough before i was pregnant, now it just seems to be getting worse. Plus it doesn't help that we are having a really stressful time finance wise and am really worried about things. My DH says to let him worry but its not that easy, cos i am a worrier. I hoping some of our problems might start to get better soon so i can concerntrate more on bubby. Had a lovely 315am morning this morning so i think im going to be pretty tired by lunch and hopefully can get a nap in (if my 4yo will let me). Atleast if i'm alseep i dont have to think about my problems.

I think alot of people are having money problems at the moment, just trudge though as best as you can. It doesn't help that we are all at about the 20 week mark at christmas time. I don't know about everyone else but at 20 weeks my Ob has a planning and management fee of $900!! Mine is due on the 21st of December, and on top of that we all have our 18-20 week scan, mine is $250 and is on the 13th of December. So christmas is looking a bit sad this year, but not to worry... we are all pregnant and in about 6 months we will be ALOT less richer with a bub around! Hehehe. I hope everyone does alot less stressing in the comming weeks, remember it is Christmas it should be the happiest time of the year.:tree:

I know - the $$ thing is part of what keeps me awake at night! My OB's 20week management fee is $1350, plus the ultrasound next week is $230. But on the positive side the scan is partially covered my medicare (i think i got around $80 back with DD) and if we pay the mgt fee this year we reach our threshold & get 80% of $1200 back! YAY so I can put the 1350 on the credit card & pay a heap off once i go to medicare. YAY.
My OB is pretty good about it, he sent a letter this week saying i can pay it before or after the new year starts - whichever way works out better for our medicare threshold.

Is anyone getting pins and needles at night? Every night i seem to be waking up with them in my hands and arms.

My sister used to get something that sounds a bit like this - and then she developed carpal tunnel syndrome (quite common in pregnancy). It is characterised by noctural hand numbness and pain, caused by fluid squishing up the nerve in your wrists.
But it may just be the way you are sleeping? Perhaps mention it to your dr though....

i've been worrying about $$ as well at night. :S i usually do at christmas... but i guess with medical bills needing to be paid as well, it's made it feel worse than ever!!

Thanks Marlie, I'll mention this to the Dr next visit.
I can't believe you guys have to pay so much in fees  My Dr is an Ob and it only costs me $10 per visit. I only get to have one scan and from memory i think last time this was around $200? Not sure i'll be able to let you know after the 22nd!
The only downside is though that my Dr is 200km away. I have to go tomorrow for a check up, so i'm going to make it an overnight trip. Luckily my parents and inlaws are in the same town, so i can catch up with them at the same time:D

Well ladies I have to say that this is amusing me greatly!
And please take this in the spirit that it is intended but...
Get used to it!! :D You think you are having a tough time sleeping now but when you have to get up every couple of hours feeding, changing, etc a newborn you will look back and see this time as bliss. No longer will you have the luxury of lying in bed!
Just think of this as a test for how its really going to be in 5 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not too far away now!
But seriously...I do feel for you all. It sucks when you cant get a good night sleep. I am hating that fact I cant sleep on my stomach anymore! And all this peeing! Goodness!
Cheers,
Michelle

One thing I do remember when I had my son was how easy it was to go back to sleep after feeding him :) not like in pregnancy when your mind is going a mile a min and you have all the pre baby things to think about and plan. I used to sit there in the dark feeding him still half asleep and trying to keep awake.

I've been sleeping fine, the only drama is DH getting up at 4.30am to go for a run or a swim. I'm thinking of that as training for me though, I am not good at waking up early (or at any time really - I luuurve my sleep). I did sleep on my belly the other night, not intentionally, but when I woke up I had the worst pains all over my belly so I won't be doing that again.
