View Full Version : MCN on TV
I've just finished emailing both Sunrise and Mornings with David and Kim asking them to do a story on MCN. :fingerscrossed: they pick it up! And if they don't I'll just keep bombarding them until them do:laughing:
Sunrise did a story on Eenees awhile back, but personally I still think they're disposables not completely cloth. I'd love to see them do a story on MCN, promoting WAHM's and the environmentally friendlier option of nappying our children. Something like this would be in line with their Cool The Globe slogan.
As for David and Kim, it's something I have on occasionally and this morning they seemed to be talking about water saving and how they want to talk more environmental issues. What could be better than MCN for them to promote to Australia?!
Oh GREAT idea! Maybe a few of us should email in asking for a story to be done? That way they know there's a demand? If you say yes, I'd be happy to send an email :D
 Thats excellent Gremily!!! :yelclap: I was just thinking the other day how well it would go for their 'Cool the Globe' thing

MCN was mentioned on Sunrise about 3 weeks ago. They showed one of LEah's Kidz in Cloth nappies and talked about the environmental aspect of cloth nappies. It was in the eco reno segment. Mel and Nat on Sunrise are very anti-cloth nappies but Kothie keeps mentioning them and the girls just turn their noses up at it all and won't dicsuss it.
There was a thread on Nappycino about it (when it gets back up and running) do a search for it and there was lots of discussion about it afterwards.
I must have missed that Harry'smum. I very rarely miss Sunrise and of all the times to miss it aswell!!
I definetly think we should all still bombard them with pro MCN emails though:thumbsup: The more ppl they can see who are interested the more pressure there is for them to do something about it.

I remember when they did the eenees segment and I got the same impression, especially from Nat. Kochie was all for it but it all just seemed too hard for Mel and Nat.

as Karena said, there was a short piece on MCN on the Cool the Globe series on Sunrise a few weeks back. If you search for "Cool the globe" or there is a link to the website on the 7 sunrise website. you can watch a re-run of the segment. Brings a smile to the face! ;)

Hmmm, the letters to sunrise and today have been sent for aaaages, and custom made nappies (eg. a honey boy with the sunrise logo embroidered on it) have even been sent to them with press release materials just before Real Nappy Week last year - and weren't acknowledged, let alone reported on. :(
Be really careful how you come across and don't bag Nat and Mel for their perspectives (which actually puts me off watching the show), rather encourage them to be an unbiased and modern current affairs program providing balanced information to parents.
good luck
Sorry I missed seeing KIC on national tv!
I don't wach much tv but I did catch Neighbours a few weeks back when Skye's baby was in a terry flat - that was exciting!
But yeah its not fair seeing mainstream not knowing about mcn.

I somewhat take offence to that - how exactly do you class them as disposables they too can be used just like any other cloth nappy. If you want to promote the use of cloth how about not turning your nose up at other ppl's choice of cloth nappies.

True O's mum - and eenee's can be boosted with cloth, yeah?
ooh, argey bargey between the clothies.
Actually, I think eenies are an EXCELLENT way to introduce the idea of cloth to most people set on dispoables. That is certainly the way I got hooked, I wanted the disposable part, but then got more and more info and ended up with a Greens, so slowly slowly catchee monkey, eenies definitely have their place. I didn't even buy an eenie in the end.
But you will never get a look-in if the two women on the show aren't interested, simple as that.

Sorry OM, I didn't mean to cause offence. When you're using them like you said, with a cloth booster, then sure they're great, but on the Sunrise segment they didn't say that. It was promoted as an 'inbetween', part cloth part disposable. It wasn't until I got onto BH, and I think it was probably one of your posts, that I found out eenee's can be stuff with cloth.

Yes I think the record should be set straight that eenees are full cloth if thats how you wish to use them ...I only use cloth in my eenees...although I did use the pads a while back to boost my night nappies...however now im using BB's for night so its full cloth again now....
What exactly is wrong with eenees may I ask...dont they fit the profile of MCN or something????? I have found them the cheapest cloth nappy option apart from terry nappies...and they are brilliant with no blow outs..they dry quickly are trim and look cute...
I wonder what people have against them???
PS...I think its the weenee part which people dont like as that is the flushable pad bit...also eenees the company do not promote their eenee pants as only being compatible with the flushable pads...they actually have microfibre cloth the perfect size for the pants and they actually promote this as they main way to go with the pads as a second option if you want them....

I wish to take back that I am offended - pg hormones make me cranky at everything lately:o
Gremily has explained that she meant the Eenee's were like disposables by using the way they were shown on Sunrise which was by just using the flushable inserts as there was no mention of using cloth inside the nappy.
I emailed Sunrise about 4 months ago and heard nothing...I also emailed via the 'Cool the Globe' website too and nothing!
What nappies did they use in the segment?? I saw the time Kochie tried to get all three of them to try the eenies but I think more recently there was a segment on MCN.....
I'm not quite sure how it's possible to find Eenees the cheapest cloth option short of terries - I believe them to be a particularly expensive cloth wrap. $25 for the pouch pants is absurd, and then it's another $4 for a microfibre booster or 45-65 cents per single-use pad. That's putting the cost squarely in the hyper-premium handmade WAHM cloth nappy range.
Bummis and lay-in prefolds, one example of the closest functional equivalents, are dramatically cheaper. SIWW are ten dollars cheaper, and Bummis Original are about half the price - and closer in durability to Eenees than Bummis SIWW.
Actually, pretty much every cover out there, except hand-knitted wool, is less expensive. I also found the Bummis covers wicked far less (I abandoned Eenees after trying various combinations, due to constant leaks through the cotton ribbed leg binding!). If they work for you, fabulous, but I have seen a number of people put off trying any other cloth covers due to their experiences with Eenees - they thought they were buying a premium product, and that everything else would be even less functional.
My other problems with the company include:
1. I have noticed on a number of occasions that they (Eenees/Gdiapers) promote their hyper-expensive single-use pads over the cloth variety. Their marketing has in the past specifically involved falsities about cloth, such as no environmental benefits and "being confined to the laundry".
2. The greenwashing issue. Eenees goes on and on about its supposed "cradle to cradle" environmental certification. What they don't tell you is that the particular level of certification they chose does NOT require the company to account for energy inputs, emissions, water usage, or other key environmental factors. These are much bigger environmental issues in Australia than landfill is.
One Queensland LCA study found that the Eenees pads required 1.4 times the land usage area than traditional disposables in their manufacture, so the much-vaunted environmental pluses of these pads are very much up in the air.

They used a Kidz in Cloth one. Leah and her DD were very excited seeing it on the TV.
I say forget Sunrise, because as someone said before, if the two women are uninterested then MCNs won't have a hope! Like Gremily, I've emailed David and Kim included some site links in there too, just to get them started :D
So :fingerscrossed: !!
What about the today show then with Jessica being pregnant they might be more receptive??

Are you again talking to about the WEENEES pads?? As I said before im referring to using cloth. Im not sure where the $4 per microfibre comes from...I got my microfibres at 12 for $25...
I have 4 of the pants at $25 each...I also have a couple of the extra snap in pouches at $20 thats $170 dollars for my stash..
I dont mind if some people dont like them...thats fine...I just think its funny that even if you use cloth some people still turn their noses up at types of cloth nappies....will it ever end???
Without being rude this is a thread about MCN on TV...not whether one particular MCN is MCN or not! Maybe a new thread should be started for this debate

Sorry got carried away there due to a previous comment...however you are correct!!;)

Wow, that's half the price of the microfibre boosters on the site! Where did you get them?

No worries - like I said, if they work for an individual and they're happy, that's great. Anyone can google up the prices of alternatives and compare.
I explained the problems I personally have with recommending the company as clearly as I can - if anyone would like any clarification, please feel free to PM me.

Why dont we all try emailing all 3 morning shows. Maybe even kerry-ann for next year when she starts filming again. Maybe include some links to some MCN sites and even some photos of our cute bubbas if we can to try and get some acknowledgment for the wahm and for us taht use them. Showing they are just as easy as sposie!
I'm also wondering, how we can get it into the mags....practical parenting, australian parents, my child...have any of the WAHM's sent demo's to them (jen?)
When I emailed I provided links to
http://www.ecoaction.com.au/category.php?id=52 - is the photo of the amount of disposable nappies uused by 1 child in 2 years.
http://www.rwh.org.au/wellwomens/whic.cfm?doc_id=7691 - shows a study being conducted by University of Queensland

http://www.modernnappies.org
Plus a couple of photos of my dd2 in her BB:thumbsup:
I'll do another email for the Today show aswell. Thinking I might even try A Current Affair and Today Tonight. Maybe we should send emails to our local papers, aswell.

I wonder if we did a petition & emailed that into Sunrise whether they would look at it? Just an idea...

I'd even love it if there was a pit of a push towards them being in stores. I'm new to cloth so correct me if i'm wrong, but i think if these cute and convenient nappies were in shops more people might realise the range and be more inclined to give it a go.
MInd you i have no idea how to do this but it was just a thought.

Wellll, they are appearing in stores a lot more. If you go to www.ozclothnappies.org/irl you will find some of the States with real life stores that have been uploaded, and I believe there's an extensive list for other States on the way too. But I agree, they should be in the stores more, it's just hard to get them there because they have high expectations for their profits/commissions on sales, which, if met, often leaves the WAHMs working for almost nothing! ;)

I'm working on the IRL list today, so check back a little later if what you're looking for isn't there... I have NT and Vic to put up.

I thought that might be the case with profits etc. but i'll check out that link you mentioned and see what i can find. i just know that i've never seen anything other than the Terry flats in shops, so for someone like me who had no experience with this previously they probably don't realise what's out there
Good luck getting some promotion for these products. I didn't know MCN even existed until Bubhub.
Lara - thanks for this list!!! I knew aboutmost of the stores, but had no idea about the markets! Going to have a look this weekend... :D

I think more info out there would be great...HOWEVER....you are all forgetting one thing......and it could be huge.... If MCN became more mainstream...well....THERE WOULD BE AN EVEN LONGER WAIT FOR US when ordering:eek: !!!....hehehehe
