Hi, I've been searching this site for other mum's around my age in the Tamworth area. I have lots of family close by but I have no friends since moving from Sydney :crying:. Please help!!!
I am from Tamworth but moved to Sydney in 97.
Do a search for all posts for the word Tamworth, there are a couple around but can't remember who??? There are a few in nearby towns too!
Welcome to the hub by the way:wave:

Hi Mavericksmum,
We have just moved to Tamworth a week ago, am finding it a bit hard with family and friends back home in Newcastle. I'm 26 with a 17 month old, energetic son and would love to catch up with people in the same situation. Might stop me going crazy lol!

hi there. i don't go on here all that often.
there's a group called mainly music that runs at blue cross church on duri road. it starts off with singing and dancing, then they move on to morning tea and the mums have a chat and activities are set up for the kids. i went last year and enjoyed it. the kids have changed day care days.
PM me if you feel like catching up one day. i've got a 20mth old boy, 3 yr old girl, and one due in june this year.
where in newy were you? all my in laws are in newy so we go there a fair bit.

Hey,
That group sounds great! I am an early childhood teacher, only worked 3 days a week, but gave up work when we moved up here. We have a house in Cardiff South that we are renting out while we are here. But both my husband and I grew up around Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.
Would be interested in catching up, it would be great to get out of the house and we both need a bit more stimulation!

Hi Montana 83.
thanks for your reply.
it does sound like we are in a similar situation with our boys being a bit wild lol.
we are coming to tamworth tomorrow thur 18th feb till saturday just for a break from the rat race down in sydney. if you get this in time we should try to arrange something and if not once we move there later in the year we can arrange a play date to get our boys out of the house.
Take care

I dont actually live in Tamworth, we're out of town at Loomberah. I grew up in Camden though so dont know anyone up here. Its hard to meet people, Ive tried going to playgroup but all the other mums have been so much older then me with much older kids, I think I might give that Mainly Music group a go though and see if thats any better.
Stay at home mum here and also studying agriculture through distance ed but it has gone on hold since having DS, just lost motivation and interest. It took me a while to adjust to not working but I just love being at home to play with DS all day.
i live in tamworth and i am only 23........ at home all week by myself studying by distance for me cert 4 in business admin because i have no friends that can look after kyle, he can only get one day a week at daycare (love milestones though) and i have no family at all in town. why dont we make our own playgroup? i have a huge backyard and a ok set up inside...... its a small house but its all good :) anyway my email is schipp03@bigpond.com.au if anyone wants to get in contact with me.

hey Curvy,
a play group sounds great i'd be definitely there, but the only problem i have at the moment is i won't be living up there till around august or there abouts. we are moving from sydney but we are "trying" to get some work up there before we move. it's proving to be harder then expected. i will email you. take care.

Nundle is beautiful, you do have to be prepared for a small town with small minds though ;)
the drive to work isnt any longer than it was in sydney for me...i just travel ALOT further in the same amount of time
Im not sure when I will be leaving work I am a temp.

wow that is freaky! we will have to catch up for a non-alchoholic some time :)
I know one of the Gyms in town do aquarobics but i dont think its aimed directly at pregnancy
brodiesmummy
16-03-2010, 09:45
When I was doing antenatal classes they told us the only heated pool in town you could use while pregnant was the one at 360 Fitness, the other one is to hot. I know they run aquarobics classes that are supposed to be good, might be worth looking into.

hi girls,
Hope you are all doing well.
i did aqua aerobics when i was pregnant and i really liked it but i got lazy towards the end of my pregnancy as i just didn't have the energy. lol. definitely worth a go though. you can also get your partners involved like i did they enjoy it too and it nice to have company when you don't know anyone else.
good luck.

Anyone been with or going with Dr Hollebone?
I have my first appointment today...
BeatoNo3
23-03-2010, 09:55
Hi there, chance r u will have your first app with dr hollebone but next clinic you mihgt see some other dr, it is very rare you get to see the same dr at clinics.. but u prob see the same midwife if u go with the midwife clinics.
notquitesupermum
23-03-2010, 10:09
I was under the impression that I would see Dr Hollebone on some visits and one of his mid wives for check ups
and that he would almost deffinately be there for the birth
I didnt know there was a midwife clinic...
I hope im not forking out thousands of dollars to get a public service...
BeatoNo3
23-03-2010, 10:26
Hey sorry mate i didnt kno u where under private heath... im not sure what will happen with private insurance but i kno that yea when public its not often u see the same dr but in saying that some time u do i think jsut depends on the day... hope all is well.. if ur going private mayb look at having bub at tamara or u defo having bub at the base hospital..
notquitesupermum
23-03-2010, 11:12
No im deffinately having the baby at Tamara
Thats why im using Dr Hollebone, as far as im aware hes the only private obs in Tamworth
I have private health but I'm choosing to go under Dr Apen. I've seen Hollebone with fertility treatment and in my own opinion wasn't happy. I found him too old and old fashioned...Once I moved onto Dr Apen the ball got rolling, discovered blocked tubes and had a lap - then moved straight into IVF...All within about 8 months - yet spent years waiting before with Hollebone.
I'm being admitted as a private patient though at the Base hospital.
I've got a friend who loves Hollebone. I guess it's personal opinion. Just see how you go :) Good luck.
notquitesupermum
25-03-2010, 07:28
Thanks for your thoughts Neyney79
he is VERY old....
I didnt really know much about private in public so I didnt do it, i had thought I would need to still have Doctor Hollebone anyway
i have to admit i dont understand ANY of this having a baby stuff...
In the waiting room for Dr Hollebone i must have been the youngest by 10 years... and I was the only one there by myself (hubby works away from home) i felt so young and naive
hopefully it all works out ok
*hugs* supermum.
I'm sure it'll work out. If you do change your mind I'm sure you can still book into the clinic at the hospital. If you get admitted at the base under a private health insurance you can choose your own Dr. You don't get stuck under just anyone.
If you want to book into the clinic simply go back to your GP, and ask for a referral to the Hospital Clinic. So far I've seen two Dr's up there, Dr Apen (My Dr - first appt) and Dr Monat (?)...I do believe you see Midwives some of the time, but they have all been pretty lovely.
If you want to chat further, pm me your email, or I can pm you mine :) If you like.

Hii.
Im Audrey, 19yrs old with 3 month old son! Live 45km out of Tamworth of Manilla. :)
Hope to meet some tamworth mummy's soon!
Hey all. OK i have decided im going to have a baby sale and get rid of my toys now that kyles two........... but had a thought. Some people i know in QLD had a toy swapping day....... instead of selling the toys and then buying new ones everyone brings a car load of toys or whatever they dont want and work out a price with another mum for something she might want........ if not moneys always good lol. thoughts???? i have alot of room at my place and was considering it.
OK now idea 2 is that we do a day at kids zone. If before the sale or after and then we will have some contacts somewhere........ or maybe a warm kettle and a cuppa. im willing to organise it if people are interested........ one week day...... just a thought.
mums to be welcome too......... great advice is always on hand
Give me a yell if need be.......

Tash - Great idea, count me in! Brodies a bit young for kidzone but he loves watching the 'big' kids playing! I dont really get what you mean about the toy swap, we're not really finished with our toys yet anyway.
Audrey - Did you do antenatal classes through the base hospital? If you did I think we may have been in the same group for the first lot of classes.

hey, im chelsea, have 2 children one is 3 and the other is 1 and was wondering if any of you would like to get together with our babies next week. maybe wed at kidzone or something. im very lonely and need to get out of the house. hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Chelsea,
On wednesday the playgroup that I have been going to is having a morning at ANZAC park if you wanted to come along to that. I think the idea is just to let the kids run around becuase its school holidays so I assume there might be older kids there to.
Otherise maybe get in touch with Tash (Curvy) she was going to organise a day for us all to meet, Im just not sure if she has yet though.
hey darl, that would be really good at the park. are you sure i can just turn up thou or do i need to call some one to organise it. i dont want them to be wondering why im there lol.

They are all really nice there anyway but Ive never been to one in the school hols to know exactly what goes on. Ive only been going for a few weeks so probably wont recognise you as a new person since I dont know everyone yet. If you want you can email me to organise something and I can introduce you to the few ladies that I do know there, shay2570@hotmail.com
My partner and I are looking at moving to Quirindi or Tamworth in the next month or 2.
My partner wants to get a transfer to Quirindi.
I don't know anyone in Quirindi, but a few people in Tamoworth. Interested in meeting other Tamworth mothers when we move up there.
We have a 14 month old and expecting #2 at the end of August.
What is Tamworth Base Hospital like for giving birth?
mordygordy
03-05-2010, 17:31
Cromo- I am from Quirindi, have lived here all my life. I have a 2 year old and one due in July. I had Zack at Scone and am going back to Scone (Scotts Memorial) for this one. My local doctor at the time actually recommended Scone or Gunnedah over Tamworth and he worked at Tamworth base. He said he knows to many parents that are not happy with the base.
Loved my experience at Scone and wouldn't go anywhere else plus you are pretty much guarenteed your own roomed which I loved.
mordygordy - Thanks for that. I was originally going to have #2 at John Hunter, had our first there and had a great experience. :D
We can't wait to move to the country. Quirindi is a cute town, I was out there last year. We can definately see ourselves living out there.

Hey Brodiesmummy
Yeah my hubby is pretty tall, and he has red hair ;)
I had a boy, named William. Labour was pretty hectic. Went for 18hrs. Bub was posterior so it was very very painful, had front, back and leg labour! Bub had also pooed in me so had to be monitored and induced! :crying:
But I only used gas and bub end up coming out sideways, and was a healthy 8 pound 3oz, with 30mins of pushing.
Considering it was a pretty good experience, what about you hun?? :)
anyone keen for meet ups thursday or friday?? :shakehands:

Hi Cromo, I had B at the base and they were great to me. I have heard bad stories but I loved it there, had my own room and all the midwives were lovely.

Hi everone,
I have just moved to Tamworth, not knowing anyone as we moved here for hubby's work and we would like to permanently live here!!
Problem: No family about, and havent' made any friends as yet! Please help me.
Im in my early early 30's!! So i still consider myself as a young mum! I have 2 gorgeous children. My daugher (11 years) has made friends already from school..so really its just me and my 3 year old (almost 4) son that needs to make friends. Be great to meet at parks, or meet at playgroups / other social groups (or eventually have someone around for a cuppa and a chat and kids have a play together ). My son goes to preschool wed and fri so other days of the week are free for us to go out and do something!
Please any young at heart mums in the Tamworth area that want to make a new friend, post to me.
Thanks :sunshine:

Looks like we will be making the move to Tamworth sooner rather than later. After living back at mums for a couple weeks we've had enough. We miss our own place.
DH will be working 60km out of Quirindi on 14 on/7 off roster and we want to be closer to him.
Move will be happening after DS is born later this month. Looking around end of September.
Few questions for fellow Tamworth mums...
1) Childcare - DD is currently going to ABC Centre down here and she loves it. I've noticed that theres a couple in the Tamworth area. Is there a big waiting list? If so, am I best to put her on the list now?
2) Playgroups/Mother's groups - Is there many playgroups/mother's groups around the area?

hi there.
h just started going to a playgroup with my 2 yr old and he loved it. when you get here let me know and i will give you the details. you can email me on kylienpayne@gmail.com
as far as preschools go i have started putting my sons name down for next year as they do have a waiting list so if your wanting your child to start in september then i would start putting their name down now. they are all over the place. i have been and checked out care for kids and billabong cottage they are both nice and look well run from what i've seen. i haven't looked at an ABC one as yet. good luck with the new bub. Take care.
Kylie:D
Thanks Ladies :)
DD is currently in an ABC Centre here on the coast. We have found them terrific. DD enjoys going. They provide their meals, drinks, are clean. I know theres a couple ABC centres in Tamworth, going to give them a call on Monday.

We're moving from the Central Coast :)
We sign our lease on the 1st of September and hope to be all moved in by mid to late September. I know a few people in the area.
Always look forward to meeting new people
wow what a coincedence. If you dont mind me asking where abouts are you moving from on the coast?I moved from Toukley.
We're moving from Buff Point.
DH is a Drillers Offsider and for him to step up to Driller he will be going to Quirindi in the next few months.
We thought now would be a perfect time to get off the Coast. We've talked about moving to Tamworth for ages.
Oh wow what a small world we moved here from Toukley.Yeah the Coast is getting a bit too rough for my liking so thought around here would be a better place to bring up the kids.

Totally agree  with you there.
I'm sure alot of areas have their problems, but over the last few years the Coast has got so much worse.
Next door neighbours brother-in-law live down the road and their car was broken into one Friday night. The next Friday night our other neighbours had their car broken into.
Someones tried breaking into mums house (where we are at the moment in BP). Scared me because DD's room was the next window along :(
Our family spent alot of time out at Nundle at school holidays when we were younger. I've always loved the area. I grew up out near Mudgee so the country is always the place i've loved and wanted to bring kids up. Give me a river or creek over the beach anyday :)
i thought i posted in this last night, but obviously it didnt work:rolleyes:
i live 1 1/2 hrs north of Tamworth and often go there for shopping etc. would love to meet up with someone for coffee or something one day if anyones interested
Im interested i go to Tamworth about once a fortnight to do food shopping as we only have an IGA here and its way too expensive.
Yeah i lived in Gunnedah for a few years as a kid and i just adore the country and i personally hate the beach and prefer looking at the mountains over my back fence.Toukley had alot of stabbings going on just before i left and everyone seemed to be wanting to live like we were in the Bronx. Here is so much nicer for the kids especially as my daughter is not far from being a teenager i didnt want her surrounded with so many temptations. It would of been worrying with DDs window being the next window along i wouldnt of been able to sleep at all for quite a while.
I'm interested aswell :)
DD won't be starting childcare until October, and DS is on a waiting list. Be good for the kids (and us mums) to get out and meet new people
I really need to meet new people DH is really starting to think im not normal cause im on here so much, lol. But i need girly talk soooo bad or i will go nuts especially with me being pregnant.
Count me, DD and DS in :)
Is anyone interested in a playdate sometime soon?

Definetly!!! When were you thinking about and where?
One Tuesday? (20th maybe)
At a park. Not sure of which one. We did go to one with a pond and path the other day.

Lol i will ask DH.When did you end up moving? Are you all settled in now?
We signed the lease on Thursday. Moved most of the big stuff on Friday night.
I'm back on the coast at the moment because the kids have 2 weeks left of childcare. Will be heading back to Tamworth next Saturday morning to bring the last of our stuff up then heading back down to the coast for my sis's midwife appointment on Monday.
Then back to Tamworth yay :cheerleader2:
