i've made an appointment with an obstetrician who wants to see me every month? Is this necessary???? Or just a money making venture?

Does your obs and GP do shared care?
I saw my obs every other month and just went along to my GP for blood pressure and general check for the other months.

hey.
yeah this is necessary - but you dont have to see him if you can do share care with your gp or a middy or something??
they do it every month until 26 weeks if youve had problems, or if nothings wrong they may leave it as long as 32 weeks before they put you onto fortnightly. then its every week from 36 weeks as was said.
they need to check your blood pressure, make sure bubby is growing, make sure theres no protein in your urine (can mean infection/be a sign of pre-eclampsia etc) check bubbys heart beat, feel bubby moving etc. plus the checkups are great as it's always so nice hearing bubbys heartbeat.
they start doing more frequent checks towards the end as the risk of having high blood pressure is a lot more so they basically just monitor that because it can be dangerous for bubby.
if you can do share care, do it. it may be a lot easier than waiting for hours to see your ob!

Yea, i think it's common with whatever form of care you use. I know it's the way my midwives work too.
You can change your care though, you don't have to see an ob, i see a midwife evry time and it's through our public syctem so it doesn't cost me a cent.
If your worried about the costs then maybe have a look around at the other ways there is for you to get medical care??
