Hi,
I took Elevit and didn't get any side effects.
Maybe the diarrhoea is just a pregnancy side-effect?
I got it quite freqnetly in both my pgs :o
Maybe have a chat to the pharmacist, they are pretty cluey about medication/vitamin side effects :detective:

I started taking Elevit vits about 35 days ago...at first I didn't have any reaction. It wasn't until after the first week that I noticed I was having a reaction, in the form of diarrhea. I stopped them a week ago and haven't had any further probelms.
I am seeing my specialist this week and will be talking it over with him.

I used Elevit all through my pregnancy and still take it now for BF, and never got any side effects, but my cousin recently starting taking it for the first time (9weeks preg/2nd bub) and has been getting some diarrhea so was going to stop taking it also. Her Doc suggested that it had too much Iron in it for her system to handle, whereas I have quite low iron so I assume thats why its been great for me.
Best of luck for your pregnancy journey!

* I don't mean to thread crash here *
it's ironic though isn't it...designer vitamins and they go straight through you like  hmmm that lol
so what's second best as far as pregnancy vitamins are concerned??
LJ the blackmore preg vitamins are pretty good, with DS2 I took complan, its the best thing out I recon, its a shame that you can't get it here in OZ anymore, when I go back to NZ i'll be bringing back a stash

I've been taking Elevit for about 6 month (when I first went off the pill and starting preparing for TTC). The only problem I had was that I couldnt take it on an emty stomach as it made me a bit queasy so I now take it before bed.
No other issues though. It was suggested to my by my GP who was pregnant with her third so I figured she would know!

They seem to make me going alot more than usual too but not to a diahrea extent..... maybe it is coincedence and she has a bug or something??
I was taking Elevit with no symptoms at all - but I have since switched to Pretorius Pregnancy Multi - only becuase my FS recommended them and Blackmores over Elevit. She says it's important to take a multi that contains fish oil and iodine.
Maybe tell your sister to switch to a different brand and see if it clears up. :)

I have been taking Elevit for about 5 weeks now with no side effects at all.
I hope your sister gets better soon!

it's true that you could have a virus or something...but with a virus you get better within a few day to a week at the most. I've got a virus at the moment, but I didn't have a virus whilst taking Elevit.
with an allergic reaction you don't get better...and if it's anything simular to what I've had it's pretty easy to tell it's from the vitamins:rolleyes:
(TMI warning) but might help desplel conflicts on info...with an allergic reaction one of the forms is loose to watery green stools, that have no formation, you can get rashes, vomiting etc...that doesn't get better like a virus.

i have also had mild diarrhea with elevit but also (WARNING: TMI) it also gives me dark green stools :barf: . i think its all the iron in them plus my GP told me to take iron tablets on top of that too
