Hi all,

I am only 28 weeks at the moment, but one thing has me a bit concerened. I live about 40 minutes away from the hospital we've decided to use. To get to it, we have to travel on the Bruce Highway (in Qld - if anyone knows it) and early morning is peak hour - bumper to bumper type stuff with all the workers going to Brissy.

This is my first pregnancy, and I've always been big on gathering facts and info from experiences that others have had - so I was wondering if anyone else has been or is in the same situation?

I guess I'm wondering at what stage would be a good time to go to the hosp? I know that each labour is different, but any help or comments would be appreciated.

Hi,
we are in the same situation, call the hospital whenever you want and let them know how you are feeling and how far contactions are apart, or if your waters have broken also let them know how far away you are and they will advise you when you need to go in. Good luck
Kelly :)

Yes i know the Bruce Highway very well! I didnt go through the experience of living 40 minutes away from hospital though. One thing that might ease your mind. Most 1st labours last on average 12 hours. Im pretty sure that you'll be able to make it. If not theres always an Ambulance which can get through anything in no time. Believe me they move especially when they hear that a woman is in labour!! :D

I live about 35 min from my hospital but in the opposite direction to you (gold coast way) and we needed to travel along the Pacific Motorway with the same sort of traffic. It concerned me a little but as people have already said most, first labors especially, last a while. I think you'll be ok.
We were lucky as we left for hospital at 2am.
Which hospital are you going to Caboolture or further in. If it is further in, I guess in an emergency, you could go to Caboolture??

Thanks all.

Was talking to one of the midwives at the hospital - it is Cabolture btw - and she said that i would know when to come in!

I know that each labour and each woman is different, but I guess I'm hoping for someone to say 'when you contractions are X minutes apart, head for the hospital then.' Silly, I know, but hey. :p
