I'm not too worried about DD's latest behaviour, but just curious if anyone else has noticed their toddlers doing this.
In the last few weeks we noticed that Chloe sometimes calls DH "mummy" if she was asking for something. She also sometimes calls her carer mummy when asking for something, though when we say goodbye she comes up with her carer's name. Today I swear she called me by her carer's name - it was sort of a rotation of names as she was whining for something: mummy, mummy, 'Tinney, mummy, daddy, mummy...
in the last day she has also started associating all adult/baby pairs in her books or on tv as Daddy/baby instead of mummy/baby. Even when I correct her like that it's Lumpy's MUMMY in the Heffalump movie, she insists it's daddy, lol.
Like I said, I'm not worried or upset. I'm still her mummy and special to her regardless of what she calls me. But has anyone else noticed this phase?
Hi Martha
Samuel calls any male (just about) Daddy, certainly his Poppy(my Dad) is always daddy.
He also calls me mummy or daddy, i think it depends on what he is after, if he wants food or comfort i am mummy but when he wants to play i am daddy.
I have never let it bother me either but it is interesting
sometimes i think they do this becaus ethey are used to saying mummy if they have been with mummy all day, or will call you be carers name if they have been with carer etc, cooper will often come home after a day with nanna, and accidently call us nanna etc. also with little ones, sometimes i htink they know pa is not daddy, or they know their carer is not mummy, but they dont have any other word in their vocabulary for that person, you used to be able to see cooper thinking about it, but in the end he didnt know what else to call someone so they would get called dad or something! as their vocabulary expands, less people are referred to as mum/dad/nan, at least thats been my experience anyway :)
Hi
Sometimes DD1 (4yo) calls me Daddy and her Dad Mummy. It seems to be pretty evenly spread.
Cheers
DD1 seems to share it around evenly - she doesn't mix the two of us up but in books will point to adults and children and call them "daddy and baby" and "mummy and baby" as if she is being particularly fair with labels. I always think of it as her own little PC contribution to story time!

Thanks. It's nice to know she's just being normal, lol.
DD definitely used to call any man or woman daddy or mummy and I knew it was because she had no other words for adults. I think she's grown out of that now, she knows the names of her carers and a few close family friends now. Mixing up names definitely is more likely when she's wanting something she associates with one or the other of us. DH get's mummy mainly when she wants food or a cuddle from him. Today's rotation of names at me during her winge was like she was just going to try every word in her vocabulary that might work, lol. I don't get daddy often, maybe I should try reversing roles and be the fun playmate for awhile ;)
Our DD calls me dum and calls DF mad, I don't know why but she gets mixed up then realises it as she's talking! :)
Martha...Hope it has nothing to do with a bit of cross dressing going on in your household?? :p

Mags isn't talking just yet, well not any thing I can make sence of!! But I remember being in Primary School and calling my teacher mum! I remember other kids doing it too! Everyone would laugh, it would be quite embarrasing :o but then get over it until the next kid did it!!

O's mom.
Not unless you count me being in jeans every day. I borrowed a pair of DH's boxers once when staying over during pre-married days. He was shocked & they're damn uncomfortable anyways, so that was the end of that!
Jacinta went through that stage at about 18mths. It was a little embaressing when she pointed to a picture of John Howard in a shop on day and said "daddy"
Man...that would warrant a slap surely!!!! :D

my dd was calling her daddy mum at around 12mnths but shortlived. She does however love calling daddy MARK. HE HE My nephew 3 and a half was still calling me and anyone else in the family female mummy, I like to think he confused us as he loves us all like his mummy lol but i think he did it cause he thought mummy was what you say when you want something and its a word that got attention when he mumbles no one listened

Yep. That's it exactly I think. She seems to have stopped doing it, for now anyways.

Martha,
Hannah did and still does mix mummy and daddy up - mainly calling daddy mummy which DH doesn't overly like but I just tell him she is a child and only little give her a break!
My 5 year old still does that some times but lately we've been getting the one when he starts to say mummy but changes to daddy or the other way around.
:p (Dummy or Maddy) lol :D
