We have been actively trying to conceive our first child since June 2006.
I have been off the pill for around 12 months now. I wanted to have a break from it before we became active in the TTC trail.
When should we go to see the dr about the amount of time it is taking for us ttc?
Am I worrying about nothing or should I get us an appt?

i wouldnt worry.. ive heard that it usually takes around 5-8months to concieve..but of course its different for every women! id only worry if it takes longer then a year..hope you get your bfp really soon then!! :fingerscrossed:
on average it takes about 4 - 6mths to conceive, if you havn't concieved by 12mths thats when you go see someone, I know a few people that have gone ealier and told their docs a little white lie about them been trying for a year lol,
I hope it happens for you soon, you never know santa might give you a wonderfull xmas pressie

So would I say we have been TTC for 12 mths as I have been off the pill for that long or for 6mths as that is the active amount of time we been trying?
I know sounds daft but tis a whole new ball game for me!!
12 months minimum, i mean really why would you want to go on fertility drugs/IVF etc unless need be... fair enough, go for a TTC medical check up, or if you know there is definatly someting wrong (PCOS etc) get them to check your partners wee fellas but i honestly wouldnt go see i fertility specialist til you have been actively trying 12 months... we havent used anything since the birth of our son in oct 05 but didnt start trying til january, so i count january as a year...

I've always heard 12mths. It took us 10mths to conceive our first child.

It took us over 2 years to get DS1, we decided to stop trying for awhile and bingo I fell pregnant. DS2 was a surprise and #3 took us 6 months

it depends on your age. my dr sent me to see someone after 12mths active trying (turns out i had a problem) by step sister though was told by her dr cause of her age (29) she would be sent after 6 mths actively trying. she has been off the pill 12mths now and ttc for 3mths so not long for her.

When DH & I finally went to see a FS we had been trying for 12 months. Most FS would like to see you after 6 months if you are over 30 (which we were). If anything it puts your mind a rest to know what's going on. I have PCOS so that's why we are having problems. The first steps that a FS does is check both of you out. I had an internal u/s, blood tests & my tubes checked. DH had blood tests & his swimmers checked. After all that was done we were told what our options were.
Good luck with your TTC journey

I agree. But, if you want to make sure everything is in order with you, have your gp order hormone level blood tests...I dont know exactly what they involve as I havent had them (yet), but they can tell if your levels are appropriate for different times of the month (ie, a cd21 blood test to see if you ovulated according to your progesterone levels). Other than that, I would give it a bit more time...:fingerscrossed: for you! :)

Do you take your Basal Body Temp? This could tell you that you are definately Ovulating, even if you have regular AFs it still doesnt garuntee you are Oing.
I would suggest tracking your BBT for a couple of cycles and if by then you are still not pregnant then go see someone.
I went after 3 months but only because I knew I wasnt Oing (nor had had AF in all that time) and because I knew I had a high chance of having PCOS because both my sisters have it.

I heard that its 12 months if you are BD'ing reg, 6 Months if you are charting, using OPK's or other things to "time" your BD.
I am working up the guts to go for my App.
Big :hugs: 's to you!
