How often should I feed him? He has naps of anywhere from 1hr to 2hrs, I don't need to feed him everytime he wakes anymore do I?
He seems happy enough this morning to play first, is that alright?

Every baby's different, so as long as he's happy and alert, and having lots of wet nappies, good skin tone, etc I'd just go with the flow.
My DD's 3 months as well, and we have one big feed at 5:30 (note: all times are very approximate, they vary from day to day), back to bed until 9:30 and another big feed then up for the day and I just feed her when she starts sounding hungry.
She doesn't sleep much (ie not at all, apart from on me) during the day so we just play, have quiet time & feed as she seems to want.
I don't watch the clock at all so I can't tell you how many feeds we have or how often, but we do still do the cluster feeding thing in the evenings. Having said that our cluster feeding's nowhere near as intense as it was in the first few weeks!
As long as you're both happy I'd just go with what's right for your family, and stuff all the experts who say you "have" to do it this way or you "have" to do it that way....

When Cobey was about a month old, maybe 2, I stopped feeding him every time he opened his yak! He just wanted to play! :) He was a delightful baby to begin with but became even more delightful as he wasn't full of wind from constant short feedings. :)
When he was 3 months he started his 3 hourly feed thing, which he's still on. But every baby is different... If cobey is whingey before 3 hours I check nappy, heat, bordem, tiredness, overstimulation and then see if he's hungry :)

Yeah I agree, every baby is different, so go with the flow. Feed if you think he's hungry, not if you don't.
DD1 had big long feeds and quickly dropped down to only 4 feeds a day, so she would often feed, play, sleep, play, sleep and then feed again. From about 3 or 4 months She fed routinely at 8am, 1pm, 6pm and 10pm. She was fine on that for ages.
DS3 has always been a classic demand feeder - i gave up counting or timing his feeds and just fed him whenever he asked for it (we were travelling for 3 months when he was 4-7 months so that worked best for all of us). He still demand feeds, sometimes has 2 or 3 feeds a day, sometimes more (i don't count).
DD2 was somewhere in between these two extremes. All three babies have been healthy, happy, and delightful.:)
