Midwifery Group Practice - South Australia

For anyone in SA, this is a great way to go. There are limited spaces so you have to book early, but i have been there for both of my babies and hopefully the next one too..

Can't reccomend them enough

Hi Jess, Good to hear that you have had such great experiences at WCH.

I wanted to book in there, but I live outside their catchment  (in Blackwood) so I had to go to Flinders. But they have just started doing the Midwifery Group Practice in the Birth Centre at Flinders  - based on the model from the WCH - and so far it has been fantastic. I've had all of my appointments with the same lovely midwife and everyone I've dealt with in the Birth Centre has been fantastic. I'm actually looking forward to giving birth there (I know I'm a bit sadistic:laughing:). The rooms are really lovely and very comfortable and so far the care has been excellent!

In the end I'm really glad to have ended up at Flinders as it is less than 10 mins drive from my house.

So anyone wanting a natural birth with minimal intervention and excellent personal care, I would highly recommend using one of the Birth Centres with Midwifery Group Practice!

The Midwives at Flinders are fantastic. I went thrught the midwifery group practise as well but didn't use the birth centre as i wanted drugs.

But up in the delivery ward i could not have asked for a better team of ladies.

I see T Bear that you live in Blackwood. I used to live in Coro Valley and went to Blackwood High!!

Anyone else got anything to say about WCH Midwifery Group Practice? I think I'd like to go there but would love to hear other people's experiences.....

I had both of my babies with the Midwifery Group Practice at the WCH hospital. The midwives were brilliant. If I have another baby, I will definitely be trying to get back in with the Midwifery Group Practice again.

Unfortunately we couldn't get in as we live at Banksia Park, but so far the midwife clinic has been great at the WCH. Hopefully if we have another they'll allow us in!

We had our first baby through MGP last year and our midwife was lovely.

The only down side looking back on it i found was that i really thought i was going to die form the pain and i really didn't feel that the midwife (as lovely as she is) appreciated this pain. She was standing beside the bath jotting down notes and kept saying 'you're doing really well' in a really calm way which didn't help me at the time.

I BEGGED for drugs but it was too late but i didn't feel like they offered me any other sort of pain relief suggestions so i just had to pain it through :(

i would've like more suggestions/recommendations as to how to get through at the time i guess

we're pregnant with our 2nd baby now and are going to try out Burnside Hospital and see how we go there.
