I don't want to cause an argument but i was just wondering how long youhave breast feed for and how old will your child be when you stop.
I have been BF for 8 months next tuesday I aimed for 6 months now I am aiming for 12 months I will do it for as long as she want's it. I admit I find it odd when I see an older child say over the age of 2 still BF but I haven't been in that position yet!
I B/f DD1 for 8mths, DD2 for 6mths and DS for 8wks....(had to give up, couldn't keep up demand he was a big baby)...
I think it up to the actuall person on how long they do it for.....I have friends who just couldn't....and others who still b/f there 3 yrsold....

I breastfed my daughter until she was 14 weeks old, when she had cranio-facial surgery for her cleft lip.
DS, he's nearly 7 months old, I plan on Child-Led Weaning :)
Was that 60 minutes Shorty?

I planned on 6 weeks......almost 19 months later we're still going strong :D MJ will tell me when she's ready to stop
You'd never have thunk it from my earlier threads but I've been breastfeeding for 14 weeks - exclusively since week 5 :D
Yes, I am indeed dead chuffed about this. :D
I don't know when I'll stop. Probably at a year (I'll be going back to uni then).

Yeah i think it was something like that and i was just interested as to when people are going to brest feed to.
Im not at all against it.
I infact just the other day flipped my lid at a guy that asked my friend to do it in the toliet.
I stood there in the middle of the plaza and told him that the baby was not an animal and why should a baby have to eat ina toliet while they let pigs like him eat in public.
So please don't think at all against it just interested.

As of tomorrow, I will have breastfed my DD for 2 years precisely.:)
I don't know when we'll stop - hopefully I won't be standing at the school gates at lunchtime yelling at her to "Come git yer milk, chile!".

I have never breast feed in public, only because I have large breast. But I would never feed my child in the toilet :barf:

I am still feeding Ozzy and he is 21 months and will be feeding both the new bub and him in a few weeks time. Not sure when I will give up breastfeeding Ozzy though.

I breastfed my first daughter until she was 3years 2 months. I am currently breastfeeding my bubba girl who is 8 months, and I intend to feed her for as long as she wants!

Going on two months, aiming for a minimum of six.
If we're still going when he's one I will probably wean as I'm going back to work. But by then he might only want it morning and night anyway, and if that's the case who knows how long?
DS, he's nearly 7 months old, I plan on Child-Led Weaning :)
Sorry to hijack this thread but Queen - is this pretty much what it sounds like? As in is this when the bubs self weans?? And do you actually try giving other drinks or just wait until they don't seem interested??
My DS is 9.5 mths old and is still breastfed. He has a bottle of formula for his last feed at night though as I just didn't have enough to keep him happy! I want to BF for as long as he seems to want it, but are the signs obvious when he is ready to give up???

Feeding at 26 months here and also plan on letting him wean himself :)
I fed my son for 16months - he just stopped being interested in the breast - I'd offer and he'd stuff around. I started offerring milk from a bottle and he was just as interested in that - now he drinks water from a pop top bottle or milk (cow) in a sipper cup. I never put him on formula, but wondered if I should have.
I've been feeding my daughter exclusively for nearly 5months and it seems to be going the same as for my son. I figure I'll give up as she loses interest.
Anyone got comments on switching to formula when they refuse the breast? I figured I was just as well to just offer cow's milk (since it was after 12months) as our diet has fresh fruit and veges in it.
DD just turned one and we're still feeding. I only ever planned on bf'ing for three months, then 6 months. DD has dropped all feeds bar 3 on her own. I won't bf past 2 but I think she'll have stopped on her own by then.

I am BF my 6.5mnth DD & plan to keep going until she is 9months.
I breastfed DS 1 for 10 months, DS 2 for 10 months & Ds 3 for 9 months.
DD uses me as a dummy all night long!
I'm going 'til at LEAST 6 months... then I go back to work.. so I'll try my hardest to express and breastfeed but I'm not sure how that'll all work :(
If anything, I'll keep giving him morning/night feeds from the boobie :)
Ive been BFing for 13 months.
Im going to let Riley self wean but he does drink toddler gold out of a sippy cup occasionally. He is far more interested in the boob tho and still uses it for comfort when hes sick and when he goes to bed at night.
Im not really bothered on when to give up,Im happy to keep feeding him for awhile yet:D
BUT to be totally honest,Im starting to feel a bit nervous bout feeding him out in public now coz hes getting so big,I know people will judge me.
Its stupid I know-Ive never cared before now.Im just rambling now:o

Shine's been a boobaholic for the last (nearly) 14 months. Will definitely let her be self weaning. Won't be for a while yet, going by her current boob obsession :D
I figure that once she has boobs of her own, it might be time to encourage her to wean.....

Chels, I feel exactly the same way.
DD1 weaned about 13mths, DD2 about 15mths.
Still going strong with DS3 (19 mths). It is SOOOO nice to hear from all you mums who are still feeding, and planning to let your little (and getting bigger:laughing:) ones self-wean. Ben just loves his breastmilk sooooo much and basically feeds whenever he likes. :) I have always breastfed in public (including all across Europe last year, where I hardly saw anyone else doing it). I have never felt self-conscious before, but now I'm starting to. There are some in my mothers group too, who think it odd that I'm still feeding. I know I shouldn't care, but sometimes I do.:o
I've been bf for nearly 16mths and my DD has no intention of weaning anytime soon!! My plan is also to self wean, why stop when we are both happy?

I did plan on BF until 6months + - But Garrett self weaned at 4 and a half...
With regards to weaning - I found the day feeds disappeared first and I was feeding DS first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I didn't find this a problem at all - I don't get about people feeding older children through the day if they're like my son - he never asked for it, took it if offerred, but wasn't into it in public after a certain age - he was fine to wait till we were home.
I am planning to feed my 4 month old son for a year. Once a year is up I will see how I feel.
I read somewhere that self weaning before 12 months is extremely rare and the breast refusal is usually actually because of something else, so I need to go and find out where I read that just in case I think its happening before I am ready.
I enjoy breastfeeding but in some ways it can be quite restrictive. Once he is on solids I think I will have less trouble with him drinking expressed milk from a sippy cup or bottle. At the moment it does my head in a bit.

You are quite right in what you are saying shed....self weaning before 12 months is very rare and it is more likely breast refusal caused by something else...ie. illness, teething, return to ovulation etc...
If DS ever refuses the breast before 12 months I will be seeking help immediately.
I stopped after three months as I wasn't producing enough milk. However if I have another one I wont breastfeed (execpt the first day) Personally it exhausted me and I got very little sleep yet upside I do believe it is great for bonding just I am ****ty without sleep so I will do the bottle and be happier & less tired
DD has just self weaned - just short of 16months. It has been the perfect end to the most perfect breastfeeding time:D She was ready and so was I, although I was happy to go until 2 years if that was what she wanted:D :D

Defiantly didn't think i would be breatfeeding tis long Alirah is 14months n a BOOBY ADDICT......she won't drink anyother milk so when she is ready to give it up she will (can't picture a 2 yr old hanging off my boob)
I only breastfed for 2.5 months and then I just couldn't keep up with them anymore, they were going through growthspurts and draining both my breasts every hour.. i just couldn't produce enough to feed them both, so I started FF during the day and BF at night coz I could just do one at a time. but in the end my milk dried up.:crying:
I can't wait till I have another one. I REALLY want to BF till at least 12 months this time!

I fed my girl til 11 1/2mths, my boy til 18mths when he no longer wanted it. My bb is 13 mths today and he is still feeding frequently. I want him to self wean also.

Ds was prem and never bf I expressed until 5 months
DD1 was only 5 weeks prem but lacked te sucking reflex also so I expressed for her until 14 weeks when my milk dried up probably as I was pregnant again
DD2 was a terrible terrible feeder, we tried and tried and went to lactation day stay a few times, had lactation nurse over too many times to count etc but after about 3 months we stopped (I'd been expressing the whole time) It still brings tears to my eyes that I am not feeding her now and she is 5 months
I really hope to bf my last bub when the time comes until they selfwean
