Yesterday I woke up and my left breast was in absolute agony:devil6: . My whole body was aching and I was sooo lethargic.
I've had this twice before with dd2 in the first 6 mths, but this is the first time in about a yr. I think I double fed off the right side with her last 2 feeds before bed, so overnight my left breast has swollen.
Underneath it's kind of bruised, very red and extremely tender.
I had a hot shower which felt great then put a hot water bottle on it. From memory I think that's right, but I had an inkling in the back of my head it was meant to be ice (but was sure that was only in the first few days after birth).
I had DD1 home from school with a barking cough, so DF, although he was meant to have another 12 hr day at work, only went in for 3 hrs before coming home to help out. I layed on the couch all day other than when DF wasn't home and I had to change dd2's nappy or get lunch, and slept when dd2 had her morning and afternoon sleep.
I felt unbelieveably nauseous and really woozy whenever I stood up.
I kept trying to feed dd2 off that side in different positions, a bit more than the right side.
By last night I was wishing that I had gone to the doctor rather than try and push through it:(
Today my breast is not as swollen, is still very tender and extremely red underneath where it's sore. I'm still tired (had a sleep when dd2 had her morning nap), but I dont' quite feel as lethargic. The nauseousness has pretty well gone, but my body is still aching.
My question is, as I've never been to the doctor each time this has happened, is this mastitis? Does anyone else just try and get through it, or do most ppl go straight to the dr and get antibiotics? And if so, do the antibiotics effect bubs in anyway?
