View Full Version : Why did no one warn me... :(
My poor little man has just got his first tooth through and is suffering for it.
But so am I!
Why didn't anyone warn me it would be so hard? He has been ropable for the last 3 days. My pathetic understanding of teething was that bubs would get cranky, you'd apply the bonjela and a bit of panadol and all would be sweet. WRONG.
I haven't had a decent sleep (ie more than 2 hours straight) in 3 nights and am going around the bend. Andrew is soooo cranky, won't sit on his own or play with anything, wants to be held all the time BUT i have to be standing up, he goes ape if i try to sit down with him. He used to have about 4 or 5 breastfeeds a day, but the last 3 it has been more like 8! Its the only things that works (albeit only for 30 mins or so) Arrgghh!!
To make it worse, my wisdom teeth are giving me the irrits so I am grumpy to start with, its just been a crappy crappy weekend!
Anyone else out there suffering through the joys of teething at the moment??
oh nicole i have just been through the same my little guys first tooth came through a week ago and his next one is comming through now so i havent had a good night sleep for like a month i know it is horrible and is so so so tiring all i have found thats works is extra cuddles and i also give him Hylands teething tablets and i think they work much better than bonjela the teething tablets just dissovle in there mouth and they stop them from being so restless and wakeful since i have used them he has actually slepthrough the night again for the last 2 nights.. so hopefully it will pass soon hugs to u.

Hi guys
I am right there with you!!!!!! My wee little man has just got his two bottom teeth - two days apart - and has been very clingy and upset. The only thing he seems to want at the moment is breast feeds and cuddles which is understandable but the waking every hour at night is beginning to drive me batty!!!!!!!!!
I must try those Hyland tablets - they sound great.
How long does this last?

sorry to hear your having a hard time. Hang in there... it doesn't last forever :o
Hang in there it does get better.....
but in the meantime its a really trying time for a mother.
My advise is dont use panadol, use nurofen (if bubba is over 6 mths)
Nurofen has an anti-inflamatory in it and i feel its much better with teething than regular panadol...
Make sure you give nurofen on a full stomach....
we were giving Sam a dose of nurofen about 30-40mins after his last meal/bottle then using bonjela... this combo worked a treat for us.
Good luck Nicole, hope your own teeth sort themselves out soon too !!

Why didn't anyone warn me it would be so hard?
If we'd warned you, you might have run away in fear to hide until he's 3 :)
Hopefully he's settled back down by now, or will soon, and you'll have some lovely little white chompers to show off. In the meantime, try some of the bonjela on your wisdom teeth?
Thanks for your replies guys :)
The first tooth (bottom centre right) popped out a few days ago and all calmed down again. But yesterday the one next to it started to rear its ugly (well not so ugly) head! Arrgghh!! Though its not quite so bad this time as it was last time.
I did find the panadol wasn't great, although it did help him sleep. I got some Brauers Teething Relief and it seems to do a much better job, especially combined with the Bonjela.
Meanwhile, my teeth have run away back into the gums, and haven't bothered me since i posted! Yay!!
Nicole, can I recommend you try New Era Infants Teething Pain Tablets? They are available at the chemist and are a natural product, 480 in a small bottle. They were a life saver with DS and seemed to work when nothing else did. My DD is also teething and they seem to help her.
