 DD almost 16months has just refused her bedtime booby. The last time she did this she was 8 months old and I was really upset and not ready at all for the end of b/feeding, luckily she changed her mind:D

This time however, if it is the end I am absolutely fine with it. If she is ready as far as I'm concerned that just absolutely perfect. I never dreamed she would just decide enough, I thought she'd be going until she was 21, LOL!!!!

Wow, 16months and to think I thought I'd never get past 6 days when I was in hospy with the witchy midwifes. Thank you, thank you to my saviour the lactation consultant, my fellow bub hub mums and to my DD:D

 Wow, Manxie - congratulations on a fabulous 16 lactating months!

A couple of nights ago, my DD (nearly 18 months of age) waved me out of her bedroom door with a bye-bye, just before her bed-time breastfeed. I took this to mean that she no longer wanted to drink her milk, and put her to bed....My thoughts on the issue were much like yours - that she had obviously reached the decision that she no longer wanted to be breastfed, and instead of being sad, I was actually really happy - that my little girl is a bright, independent, confident little soul, who didn't want her milk anymore!

Unfortunately all my suppositions were wrong and 20 minutes later, I was feeding her because she began howling :p . But I'm relieved to know that when the time does come that she self weans, I will be ready as much as she is.

As for you - I say again, Congratulations! Feel proud of your wonderful breastfeeding relationship with your DD, and that she decided that she'd had enough! :hugs: :)

I have a similar problem at the moment.

My 11 mth old is acting the same way.

He was on 2-3 breastfeeds a day and all of a sudden he decided he didn't want any more!! And to add to it he left 1 boob full...
(3 days of OUCH!!)

Over the last 5 days i have been able to trick him into taking 3 feeds (AHH THE RELIEF). The only time i have been able to do this is whilst he is alseep. But i am even finding it difficult to get him to latch on at this time.

When he first refused me i was so upset, but now i have come to terms with my bubba growing up.

Does anyone know if it is ok for him to be living only on solids and cows milk now?

Also, how long does it take to stop producing milk after feeding for almost a year??

Ocean-Lily,
Any luck? I'm trying to work out what I do now. I thought that I'd be feeding for a while yet, and now he bites :shame: my nipple everytime he gets close. I don't think that he's getting enough, I'll have to see my MCHN ASAP!

I think its fine for him to be just having cows milk and solids as long as he is getting plenty of calcium and fluids. I know my sisters two boys both were off the booby at 11 months and one of them wouldnt even have cows milk so he just had water and plenty of cheese and yoghurt.
