View Full Version : Falling to sleep
Just wondering - how many bubs (at around the 4 or 5 month age) just fall asleep on thier playmat or laying down with you???
DS has 2 x 2hr day sleeps which most of the time he is wrapped and put in his cot - he just falls asleep straight away - he can also fall asleep in his pram or car seat but if I go to someones house and try to get him to have a sleep he just refuses (unless I hold him and then when he falls asleep he wakes if I try to lay him down!) ... in my Mothers Group many of the bubs lay on their play mat and then just fall asleep ... do you think DS will ever do that or do some bubs just not???
Maybe being out is too interesting! Then he ends up feral and over tired!
Anyone with simular bubs or suggestions?

Oh i wish! My DS same as yours - sleeps well at home or in pram (if moving) but only in arms if out. The world is just too much fun i think! But will watch thread as would LOVE an answer.... :D
I just noticed that your DS was born on the same date as Me!
Yer hopefully someone has an answer ... even when falling asleep in the car or pram he makes a grunting noise .. so weird when at home he sleeps like an  most of the time!
My baby is the same. He is a very good sleeper at home, he shows obvious tired signs and I put him in the bassinette and he drops off in about 20 seconds.
When we are out its mummys arms or nothing and he can be a bit whingey. Its almost like he doesn't know what he wants but at home he knows what to do when he is put in the bassinette.
Maybe thats it! We might sub-consciously give them 'sleep cues' at home and when we are out they get confused!??
My 4 month old will only sleep at home, not even in the pusher or car seat. I am so grateful that she goes to sleep easily most times (wrapped, in her bed at home). If we go out, I time it around her sleeps or wear her in the sling. If she gets tired while we are out, she'll just stay awake and get more and more tired.
I am amazed to hear of the babies in your Mum's group falling asleep that way. I have 3 kids and have never had such a thing happen to me ever! I dont think it is that usual.

DS did this once. Though not technically on his playmat. He was about 3.5 and fell asleep in his little soft chair. Never did it before, never did it again.
DD has also done it once so far, we were getting ready to go out after her feed so didn't put her to bed and she just drifted off. I don't expect it to be a common occurrence though!
My DD is the same - will only sleep in her cot or port a cot - sometimes she naps in the car but as soon as i stop at traffic lights its on!!! same as the pram shes fine if we're moving but if not no sleep!!
i guess it has house bound me a little bit but the way i figure it the older they get the more time between sleeps and at least she can self settle......
Yer I hope too as they get older it will get easier!
Funny - I always said that DS won't change my daytime habits - but when his calling the shots for my nightime sleep - I quickly worked around his daytime naps ... otherwise bad nights to come! IYKWIM!!!!
