If we have a boy we have decided to have him circumcised. I am just wondering when is the best time to get this done. Do they do it soon after he is born or do they wait a while? I would like to get it done asap so he doesnt remember the pain and it is easier to look after IYKWIM...

Hello

If you go to the circumsion threads you will find that only a few docotrs will acctaully do it. and it is usually done after they are born.

I know that people are against it and some hospitals won't even let it happen in there hospitals

I am subject to correction but I believe that jewish boys are circumsized at 8 days as this is when it is supposed to be the least painful..

I would definately say to get it done when they are younger.

howdy.
i have 2 boys who have both been done. my 1st son was done at 2wks old, my 2nd son was done at 5wks old. they normally say to have it done within the first 6wks. both were done with no complications.

Hi I had my lil man done at 2weeks old. He had some numbing gel put on it and then we went back an hour later for the procedure. We were told if you don't get it done within the first 6weeks then you have to wait until they are 2 and then they will be knocked out.
Good luck

They earlier you can get them done the better, my boys were 3months when they were done, and should this bub be a boy he will be done earlier. You can get them done under a local anastheitic by plasti bell methoud up to 12 months after that they can be done up to 12 years of age but under a general.
Good luck!

The earlier the better. My boys were done at around 2 weeks old - it was harder on me than them! lol

My husband and I decided to get our little boy circumcised. We spoke to the peadiatritian and was told he could either get done soon after birth, before leaving the hospital or at 6 months. The difference was no anesthetic after birth and anesthetic if we waited. We decided to get it done while in hospital however my son was born 5 weeks prem so they wouldn't do it.(Fair enough, as he was tiny!) We ended up getting it done at 6 months, and it was fine. He was knocked out and it didn't seem to bother him at all. I very much doubt he remembers getting it done.

Good luck with your decision!

I had my 1st ds done when he was only a week or 2 old and my 2nd ds was done at 8 weeks (he was born 4 weeks early and was too small, then he had jaundice). I definatley say..the earlier, the better.

I was told by the dr that did it if you wait too long they have alot of puppy fat and it makes it harder but can still be done by the plastibell method. When I was having my son done a 12yr old boy was having his done too.

I use to work at a hospital that did them am i use to take the babies down to the OT and i tell you i would be getting my baby down as young as i could the new borns were all good had a BF or bottle or dummy and they were all good some went down asleep and came back asleep lol i don't know how but they did..
When you baby is older they have to have a GA and that isn't much fun then they have to stay in hospital for longer only a day but still it is a day the little ones go home in about 2hr.
Also when your boy is over 3 years old he doesn't want strange people coming up to them and having a look down there...

My boy was done at 5wks. We wanted it done earlier but the Dr had to order a Plastibell in in his size and the supplier was out of that size. Couldn't do much about it. But really, it didn't bother him at all. I don't think many hospitals do it now as soon as they are born, but just contact your hospital and find out. Some GPs will also do it in their surgeries. They have some numbing gel and then the procedure is done.

As someone else has already said, it was harder on me than on him. He had a bottle and calmed down straight away.

Good luck  I definitely say the earlier the better.

as already said..the earlier the better.. coby was done around 3 weeks i think...

there was a teenage boy getting done at the same time as coby and he will remember that day and the pain for the rest of his life...

coby forgot as soon as he had some boobie ;)
