View Full Version : BUBHUB mthly BIG meets, Sydney & surrounding areas, PLEASE READ
Okay people, it seems the 'meet ups' palava is getting a wee bit out of hand. I am putting myself out here and saying this because a number of people (more than any of you know I think) are wanting to have it back the way it used to be.
Ei One big meet up a month that EVERYONE tried to get to, whether you live 2 mins away or have to catch a train or whatever. I know I myself was slack at not going to the last meet because I didnt want to get a train with DD. But the fact is, some bubhubbers have been travelling all over the place for to accomodate everyone else and i guess its only fair that every single meet is not in Darling Harbour.
Everyone is more than welcome to have little meet ups every week or whatever, but can we go back to haveing one special BIG meet up a month that everyone tries their best to get to?
I keep missing people because they are going to a meet I didnt know about etc.
I have had so may PM's recently of bubhubbers who are feeling left out and a little confused. New members are so confused they are putting off not coming because they dont want to tread on any toes!!!! ei go to one persons meet, but not the others and so feel like they are upsetting the person whos meet they cant make it to, because they cant come to a meet every week.....
Now, don't all shoot the messenger okay, Im just putting it out there.
What do you all think?
One big meet a month that a different person organises each time and they can be in the same location but maybe give other places a go to make it fair???? We can call this big meet um 'the big meet':laughing: and then you can all get together for little meet ups whenever you want.
We can have a litlte um idol if you wanna call it that that one person gets given to organise the next big meet, then pass it on to the next person at the meet who wants to organise the next one?? That way everyone gets a turn at organising one.

I agree with the big meet up ideas, but I also think if people want to get together with whoever/whenever that should be OK too. I mean we are adults!
That's the way it use to be organising a meet then the next person etc good idea and having it in different location is good to people live all over the place.

But yeah, people can meet up whenever wherever they want but as long as it doesnt coincide with THE BIG MEET UP for that month, whenever or wherever it may be that particular month.....?

I think this is a nice idea as well Nash, one day one a month and one night one you think? Others can organise their smaller get togethers as much as they like, I mean I get together with small groups of hubbers all the time, dont think I need anyones permission, lol, but at least if we have those ones each mth, for Sydney and surrounding areas, then I think alot more people will feel welcome.
May I suggest you organise the first AO one, we can just start in January, and Nemosmum (if she does not mind me putting her hand up, but I dont think she has ever organised one, hehe) organise the day one? Then at each meet, someone gets picked to organise the next one? Some tips when planning a day meet:
(this is not aimed at you NM, lol, just thinking I might change the title of this and make it into a sticky to give people ideas)
~ near public transport
~ near good public toilets
~ near a playground
~ some shade
~ access to cafe or shops is good
We actually used to do the meets very similiar to this till a few mths ago and noone felt the way you are describing Nash, so I think its nice that you have spoken up.
Weekdays seem to work best for most people, but there is no reason someone cannot occassionally organise a weekend bbq or something for partners to attend. Variety is good!
For night ones the only thing I would suggest is somewhere that is reasonably priced, I like the Star City option, because its close to transport and you can find cheap food there :D but I love trying different places as well.
Anyway, I think I have waffled on long enough, off to tidy this up and make it a sticky :)

Well, i think buddhabubbas has a thread up about something in January so I'll go have a chat to her and see whether we can arrange to have it somewhere great and that everyone will be able to get to.
hi i havent been to a meet yet but really want to id love one big meet as then i could meet everyone at once and put faces to names....

Then at the meet we will all decide who is organising the next one, and the idol will be passed on, and so it will begin......:p

What doesnt little old me count for coming to pretty much every meet from all the way down south west :p
I would also like to say that any of the meets i have organised over the last few months havent been done to make others feel unwelcome or the likes.
I have just tried by best to make it central & easy for everyone to make especially when coming from down south or north etc.
Anyways i think being that ive organised quite a few of late i shall bow out & let others take over the role for a bit especially now im working & cant get on as often.
so who is organising the next AO meet? because ithink the january one is cancelled? porribly not im just unsure because the thread is closed......Dh and I are itching for another one lol

Ive been thinking to about the day ones, they dont ALWAYS have to be child friendly either, I mean if someone knows a fabulous cafe or something that they have been wanting to try, there is no reason why we cannot have a couple of AO day meets too!! :D It will be great seeing what everyone comes up with, looking forward to seeing some creativity ladies!

The monthly meet up's is an excellent idea :thumbsup: (coming into this a bit late as usual - I keep missing these threads :confused: - can we also make sure meet threads are all in the same spot, so we know where to check)
So, as far as I can gather next on the agenda is a January AO and daytime/kiddie friendly meet - am I up to speed?
Getting a volunteer at each meet to organise the next one is an excellent idea, it's doesn't really matter how many turn up, as long as we all know they are a regular event, we can get to which ever one we are able to.

I'm in depending on the location. The train station near me doesn't have pram/wheelchair access (which is ridiculous) so there'd be some organising on my part in getting there. I desperatly want to meet some BHers though!
