View Full Version : Logan Hospital Delivery Suite
Hi, can someone please give me some information about the Logan Hospital facilities and in particular, is there a birthing pool in each delivery suite? Also how many people share a room afterwards (although I will hopefully be discharged same day).
I was going to go to the Mater, but I have just been told that they probably will not accept me because I am closer to the Logan and its been left a little late. So I have the choice between Redlands and Logan, but Logan is a lot closer and I will probably be having a short labour so closer is better.
Any info appreciated, I just tried to phone them but couldn't seem to get through to the right place (not a good start lol!)

Hi Jo,
I gave birth at Logan last year but the birth suites were closed for refurbishment at the time so we were in 'alternate' suites.
These suites did not have birth pools. There were one or two bathrooms with big baths in them which I guess were kind of communal.
The suites did have showers and balls, chairs etc.
We had done a tour through the actual birth suites when we did the ante-natal class but I honestly do not remember what was in them.
I was lucky enough to score my own room (there may have only been one or two other private rooms) but most rooms appeared to have four - six beds. It's a pretty busy hospital and most of the beds were full when I gave birth.
From memory you have to ring before 4:00 as well if you want to talk to someone.
If things go to plan I may meet you there - I'm due on the 25th.

I gave birth at logan hospital in July 2005, I dont remember birth suites having pools but as stated they have been refurbished.......
I got a single room at first cos I needed one, but then I was put into a shared room where there where 4 ppl per room, and I think thats the norm......
Not much help I know, but I tried....lol

hey
i'll be giving birth at Logan (sooner rather than later i hope!) and they have one bath there, but it's not in the labour rooms. you are allowed to use it up until you're about 5cms dilated, but they dont do water births there. (which is a shame 'cause i would have loved one!)
they have big showers in each labour/birthing room with a fixed shower and also a hand held one to put on your back/stomach, wherever you want. they also have birthing balls to use, a birthing stool, been bags, you can play music, use aromatherapy (they have 1 electric oil burner so they do recommend you bring your own, but make sure it's electric not a candle one!) they have face washers and stuff there too.
You will most likely share with 3 other people (4 ladies to a room) afterwards. Though they do have about 4 single bed rooms in ward 2D and some more single bed wards in 2E.
i'm actually really happy with Logan so far - no problems at all. The midwifes are all lovely. My friend also gave birth there last week and she likes it - though she's getting a bit bored. You can hire tv for 8.50 a day but i doubt you will if you want to be discharged the same day.
Um yeah. I think that should help you.
You do need to ring them between 8am and 4pm.
They also do tours of the hospital, when i went a couple of months ago it was saturday mornings at 10am. But you can just ring up the hospital and ask and they should be able to tell you.
If you wanna know anything else you can just PM me.
Good luck!!
Thanks so much everyone!
I am a bit unsure now, with dd I used a big spa bath type of thing for pain relief and the water was great. I do prefer to go natural and I am not sure I can do it without a bath... anyone know about Redlands?
I don't know about Redlands, but the Mater doesn't have baths (yet) either. If you do prefer the Mater though, you should be able to get in. I live in Beaudesert Shire and have had both my babies there. Good luck finding your bath.:)

i've never been to redlands but i do know that they have 20 private rooms, so you'll get your own room and you only share your bathroom with one other person, but at logan theres only a couple of showers and one bath for the whole ward.
if you have your baby before 35 weeks redlands wont take you, but at logan i think they take you after 32 weeks? or something around there anyways.
at redlands they provide clothes for the baby during the stay, but at logan i dont think they do this?
they do have baths in each birthing suite from what ive heard, as well as showers too. so it might be a good idea to ring up and book a tour? it sounds like a great hospital :)
i'm very happy with logan though! i've heard good and bad storys about both hospitals so i guess just toddle along to a tour and see which one suits you best. best of luck.
