They are cool - I had one for 3 years before it died, they don't like the cold and like lots of weed to hide in!!

I don't have a website but I just know that when we had one we had to buy a water conditioner for his tank, it was just a couple of drops of a liquid that we had to put in after every clean.

My baby Shadowfax (named after the white arab in lord of the rings) lived for 3yrs.

He was a red colour and shimmered purple when on the move.

They LOVE small snails to eat. We got some out of my auntys pond and he loved it.

The love dried worms you buy in a container.

They also like a bit of warm water so if he's sitting on the bottom and looking like he is about to die, pour in some warm water. He will come back to life again.

They love Elodia plant in their tank.

Mine was in a big tank (a sole fish until I put in some small fish he ended up eating) and he would dash from one end to the other. I personally dont know how people can keep them in those tiny tiny tanks.

Put a mirror infront of him and watch him flare up.

They are beautiful fish. My boy would let me touch him all the time.

My tank also had a filter and airstone. He lived 2.5yrs longer than my ex boyfriends who didnt have air or filter.

Hope that helps you.

Apparently it agitates them - they are fighting fish after all -and can cause huge levels of stress.

Some of the water conditioners specifically for these fish have a sedative in them to relax them a little.:yelclap:

Im no expert, just going by what the vet said - my DH though it was funny so he kept leaving a mirror behind the tank and they never lasted. Now we know why.:crying:

Hi, i have no links jsut wanted to say i have a Blue one named Funky Ted and a Red one named Funky Fred. They are in a tank that is seperated in the middle they flare up at each other all the time although there over it now. They dont like to be cleaned out fully, make sure you keep some of the old water and when you put the clean stuff in top it up with the old also dont forget to put water ager in. I was also told by the bet shop they only like little tanks they dont like being in big tanks because were there from they only live in muddy puddles.

it isnt bad for them.
only if there is a mirror next to them constanlty.

breeders in thailand pu the males near the females all the time to 'excercise' their tails and make them stronger.

it stretches out their tails so they dont fuse together its good for them.

at one stage i had over 60 and i breed them and bought pairs from over seas.
i did have to 'card' the fish though (put bit of paper or cardboard in bewteen thier tanks so they werent flaring all the time. But it was necessary to take these cards out for about an hour each day so they could stretch their tails.

Check that link out before that i gave you. www.ausaqua.net . Theres a forum their with breeders both in australia and in thailand. they have heaps of info on them!

Mine loved his big tank and would dart from one side to the other numerous times a day...

they do prefer bigger tanks, with filters and a heater as they are tropical fish.

I had 2 fighters, I cried when they eventually died, it was a sad moment, ours lasted for around 4 years...the last one died earlier this year...

We have 2 foot fish tanks set up, with filters, and heaters, and they thrived in them....

We fed them blood worm, and they would go nuts over it......

Dont have any links but just wanted to share about my beautiful babies I had......

I just want to add about the tank size, they can be kept in small tanks, but I hate seeing them in those small tiny glass jars, vases etc, where they have no room to move, its a form of fishy cruelty......IMPO

I hate seeing them in those small tanks too. It makes me really mad.

I dont care what anyone says(if they prefer small or large), but I think if you are going to cage/tank an animal, it needs to be in a decent sized cage/tank.

When I was living at my parents house, I kept 16 bettas, all in separate tanks (mostly large vases belonging to my mum ) in my bedroom. I kept cards in between tanks that were near each other so they wouldn't be flaring all the time (but flaring occasionally is good exercise for them).

I've also kept three female bettas in one large tank. They look the same as the males, except with short tails, and they look so pretty swimming together. The females don't fight to the death like the males but they do form a kind of pecking order if kept in the same tank.

I only have one betta now, a huge purplish-red boy called Pedro, who blows gigantic bubble nests. :) Bubble nests apparently mean your betta is happy (or horny, lol).
