well, i have to admit it my baby is growing up. i don't know how much longer i will be able to call her the baby and not the toddler.

she has decided to call breastfeeds dis, as in dis side now and when she points to the bra clip and says dis dis she looks up at me and gives me one of those screwy up nose face smiles:hugs: :wizard: :)

i absolutely love feeding an older baby. it is just magic to see how much they love it and how much it means to them.

feel free to share your magic moments feeding your older babies:yelclap:

Hi meme:wave: As you know, i haven't quite gotten to the 'older baby' stage yet but definitely look forward to it!

That's so gorgeous! I, too, am familiar with the screwy up nose smiles! That's one of Elouise's fave expressions:D

Whilst we also haven't reached older baby age yet, DS already pulls down my shirt and bra and says mumumumum when he wants milk :D

In the morning I am topless and he climbs all over me randomly grinning and latching on for 10 seconds to have a quick suck before heading off again. It's my favorite part of the day.

Hi

My DD 16months just has her pre bedtime booby now. She gets sooooo excited before she gets it and makes little excited squeaks very cute:D

I love the fact that I know when she is needing a bit of reassurance/comfort as her hand is straight down my top. She also has her hand down my top from about 5.30pm every night!

Riley is getting soooo cute with the boobies.Im trying to teach him body parts,so far he only recognises "boobies" LOL.
He now pulls my top right out and pulls the boobie out.As soon as he gets it out he starts laughing! Its soooo cute!
Like cheezel said,if Im topless he will just lunge at the boob!
Also hes started to get soooo excited at the prospect of boob,as soon as he sees it he starts doing a little hyperventalating thing, like hes so bloody excited haha

I think you should carry on just doing whatever you and bubs are happy with and ignore all the "advice" :D 16months olds have so much change/development going on in their little lives that I think its great to be able to continue to give them the comfort and security that breastfeeding gives them:D

wow, looks like some of our bubs are similar ages.

i have had a nice chuckle over our boobie bubs:D

rach, i saw the great pic of elouise's screwy up nose face smile, sooo cute!

my dd also loves it when i am naked and frech outof the shower, if i bend down she tries to latch on as i 'swing' past:laughing:

SEM- i feed my 17 mth old whenever. if i am home and sitting down, she feeds a lot, if we are out she is interested in other things.
just be led by your baby, and do what feels right for you. many people feed older babies, it is normal:yelclap:

My bub is just over one so probably considered an older baby (not quite a toddler as he doesn't walk yet). He feeds whenever he wants. He does pull up my top. He cradles himself for a feed and sits up to feed from the other and chooses which side. I enjoy it and I don't think he will wean very soon. Its strange though that he feeds quite often during the day but hasn't fed the past 2 nights b4 bed. I wonder if he will night wean b4 e weans day feeds. My older boy was feeding til 18mths but that was mostly bedtime boobie.

i will do right now.. I am so sick of people telling me she is tiny because i feed her.. You know she eats and snacks but is very fussy, and she like to have that comfort cuddle.. Dont know how long i will continue i wanted to get to 6 months and now 16 months later we are still going strong..
Maxine: dose you little one feed at night too?? do you feed to sleep? i am trying to be strong and put her in her cot but she always end up in bed with me.

DD just has the 7pm feed now. Sometimes she falls alseep but mostly she comes off, gives me a huge smile and is happy to go into her cot in a post b/feed drunken, mellow mood :D

The night feeds stopped a couple of months ago. I thought she would never give them up and one time I just gave her a cuddle instead of putting her on the boob and she couldnt have cared less:sleeping:

HOw did you get her to do that, i am flat out trying to cut out some of her feeds during day and at night..

Ideally i would love to feed her once in mornign after her breakie and once at night for bedtime, just gettting there is the hardest.

   - what a mental picture, LOL!!!

That reminds me...

DS and I shower together and one day the phone rang. So I ran out with no towel on me, just on bub, to answer it. I went to pass bub to my partner - but bub had seen the naked boobie and latched on whilst I was trying to clutch the towel to protect myself from the neighbours eyes and talk on the phone

you know until recently all the growth charts were based on mainly formula fed babies and now the world health org. has put together some new charts with averages taken from breastfed kids. you may want to check out these charts.

my dd was 9ks for ages and is only 10ish now? maybe 11 - you can tell i do not get her weighed:laughing: i can tell that she is growing, happy, healthy and reaching milestones.

for what it is worth, my bub is asleep in her own bed right now (fed to sleep), but if (when) she wakes later, she will toddle into me and spend the rest of the night with me, and having feeds when she needs to.
she is 17mths:cool:

Thanks for that, its nice to chat to like minded people because after a while you start to think are these peopl right should i not be letting my DD do this, i know i should but these thoughts happen..
I will check out the chart and take it with me on her next visit to pead!

I'm still feeding my 18.5month old DD & love it to bits. Sure some days are tough but its all worth it. At the moment she feeds anywhere from 3-5 times a day. Example, yesterday she fed at 5, 6, 11, 12, 6 & 7 when she fell asleep.

She used to say "that" & point to them & kiss me, now she says "that", I ask her what she wants & she says "more booboo" I laugh everytime

my dd also loves it when i am naked and frech outof the shower, if i bend down she tries to latch on as i 'swing' past:laughing:

My daughter does that too  Or i'll be in the bath, she comes in to say hi, see's the boob, grabs it & has a drink

Dont worry guys, MJ is only 9.5kg at 18.5 months. She's never been big on solids, even now eats less than most. But she's a ball of energy.

Just for the heck of it, here's a shot of MJ i took the other day giving Dolly "booboo"

Why thankyou :D

Its very hard not to get caught up in it, i know. I still keep in touch with my orignal mothers group & the next one up in weight is ove 12kg, so i get told all the time how light she is :ecomcity:

The clinic nurse pulled me aside at the 18month check & said to me i have no need to worry, that she looks great & that she's just going to be a slim person (unlike me :p)

It made my day, as i usually get the "you need to feed her more" comments. I cant force feed her, she has food available to her whenever she wants it.

I wonder if the majority of toddler b/f bubs are on the skinnier side? DD only has the one b/f feed a day now so I guessed the new WHO charts were not really relevant to us anymore?? I suppose DD is used to having little and often

My 10 month old DS is only 7.8kg (and 75cm long). Our CHN is fine with it because he is so active - it's only other parents who comment.

bens due to go get his 18mth check up so i dont know exactly what he weighs but hes not a big boy

at 12mth he weighed 8.5 kg the health nurse has said to me all along that hes just going to be skinny (he takes after his brothers)

but hes healthy and happy and thats the main thing

I wondered that too if BF toddlers are skinner!

DD feeds any where from 3 to 6,7 times day and night.. Trying really hard to just feed morning and night but...

My DD2 is 22mths and she loves her bitty and I love feeding her still, it makes her so happy and its the best when they are sick, it always stops her from screaming when she feels unwell.

She has a morning feed, a night feed and sometimes in the day most days. She doesnt want bitty when Im out as she is too interested in everything around, which I feel sad about because Im proud to be still feeding her. DD1 self weaned at 9mths, she is now 4 so Im glad DD2 is still going strong.

Its great to hear other mums feeding older babies, I rarely see it these days so :hugs: to you all for doing such a great job!!

the new charts are growth standards and are applicable to all children. there are lots of variables for growth, such as genetic make up, but using these newer averages as a guide, may see less healthy bfed bubs accused of not being fed enough, leading to the introduction of supplementary feeds.

Thanks for that Meme. I hadnt really been worried about DD's weight, hadnt bothered to get her weighed for ages but we saw a specialist last week who was shocked at how little she weighed. So I was worried that I should be worried IYKWIM:rolleyes:

I mentioned it to my g.p. and he has suggested I take her to them once a month to get her weighed WTF:mad: I've been told she will only gain 1-2kg this year anyway so what would be the point of that , grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

I am going to go back to be a laid back mumma who dosent weigh:D

My DD is 18mths and has been formula fed from one week. She too is on the lighter side.........she has her 18mth needles today so maybe she has reached 10kg by now :D It's so reassuring to hear that other children are the same size at her age!! But you sure get sick of the comments hey! I'm hoping to breastfeed second time round and was wondering what to do with DD who is already interested in my boobies! What will I tell her when I'm bf the new baby and she wants a try? Do I let her or am I setting myself up for problems? Is anyone else in the same situation? I thought I would ask here as our toddlers are around the same age :)

My DS is 20 months and still bf. Now that i'm preg again i'm getting alot more comments from family about weaning. But DS has no intentions of giving up any time soon. My Dad always tells him that boobie is yucky to try to get him to stop, so now DS is confused and thinks that yucky means yummy:banghead:

DS is by no means a skinny baby though. He was 7lb1 born but by 3 months was off the top of the weight chart and still is! He just loves his boobie!

At 14 months we're still going strong! I love the way DS's eyes roll back in bliss as he gets his beloved boob... I love the way he pats my other boob (the one hes not feeding from) lovingly.... I love how he grins at my sometimes, with the nipple in his mouth and a cheeky look... I love how he searches for the boob at night, with his eyes closed but mouth open, and you hear a sigh of contentment when he finds it... I also love how he will be playing nearby, and will come over for a cuddle and a top up, and will toddle off again all full and refreshed.
