I miss my kitty(she is 14 and lives with mum)
I really want another.

my kids love cats and are great around them.

I want to know what food I should be feeding a kitten and what vaccinations etc they need as it has been so long since having a kitten.
also Im thinking a girl may be more friendly(boys are great after desexing)

any tips/ideas/advice?

Male and female are about the same. The boys I've had have always been the friendliest... the females always b****y... strange but true :p

Kittens are easily fed, products are now made according to age or even type of cat (Kitten, indoor, weight management, senior etc).
You can have a wander around the supermarket for ideas, and any questions should ask your vet... when you go to get vaccinations.

They know what to give, at what age, and they will send letters for when your cat is due for another.

Just an idea, for extra friendly I'd suggest picking one up at the RSPCA... I don't know why, but every stray cat I've ever taken in is so friendly - like they know to be greatful for it, or not take it for granted iykwim???

Hi,
kitten food can be purchased from thew supewrmarket or from your vet they need to be vaccinated at 6-8 weeks, 12-14 weeks then 16-18 weeks some do not require the 16-18 week depending on the type of vacc given and the regime your vet foolows they also need intestinal wormers, heartworm and flea prevention. Have fun with your new addu=ition as a vet nurse I have not noticed much difference between male and female and find both sexes better after desexing, if you get one from the RSPCA they are already desexed for you and have had there first vaccination

I am a fellow cat lover and I have 2 exotic shorthairs :D .
I agree with getting one from an animal shelter, save another poor kitty from death row
Also, try and get one that's a few months old as he/she will still fit in and adapt to you really well but will be passed the little baby stage of being demanding and having little accidents.
Personally, I prefer females as I have had both sexes and found alot of health problems with the males due to urinary tract disorders and spraying etc.
A vet will advise on the vaccinations, but usually the one's from a shelter have already had some needles and are desexed.
Good luck, it sounds like you will give some lovely puddy cat a really great loving home, good on ya

I agree.

We have had 2 pure bred dogs that have cost an absolute fortune and they both have been pains in the ****. We got 2 dogs from the RSPCA (mutt dogs) and they are the best dogs we have ever had. Loyal, gentle, friendly etc etc. I think they do know where they come from and are greatful for being saved IYKWIM??

Good luck with getting your new pussy cat cel!!!!

IMO boys are friendlier than girls and more snuggly (but I would say that owning three boys!!)

Good luck with your search!

Hi

I agree with Mum23girls I have a boy cat and he is sooooooooooooooo affectionate. My sister had a female purebreed and she was a right little so-and-so !!!

I rescued mine at 2 weeks and bottle fed him. He is now a very happy, friendly, affectionate gorgeous 4 year old cat (who loves to sleep in the bathroom basin)

and he is now even friends with our dog Ruby who we only got last year.

I also agree with getting one from the RSPCA or Cat Haven  I'm sure they do have better personalities as they've had to work on their personality when they lack a little in the looks/cuteness department!

Good luck with your decision and I hope your new cat brings as much joy to your life as my Zeus has ...

I have a male devon rex, and he is FANTASTIC! I had another a few months ago and he contracted Feline Infectious Peritinitis, I was absolutely heart broken. I was definately a dog person before getting a Devon and they have converted me forever! I was feeding my kitten on Whiskers kitten food but his poos where really smelly, and the vet said that it was a bit junky so that is why he smelt I have changed him to fresh meat and a really good dry food. My last Vacc for him cost $60 and worming was about $3, so not bad really. I might post a pic later on tonight when I get home so you can all see my boy... I am a very proud mummy!

Just wanted to say also how I rekon cats from the RSPCA are beautiful - our cat is from the RSPCA and I swear she knows we rescued her and is grateful (she shows her gratitude in exceptional rodent catching ability!) and she is super affectionate - sometimes a bit too much!!! My Mum and Dad also got their cat from the RSPCA about 15 years ago and he is still going strong and again a beautiful cat.

They have so many cats that need a home - and Im sure more will be dumped after xmas.

I agree that males seem more friendly. All my females have been snots :devil6:, even after desexing, whereas the males have always been sooks, and want to snuggle up all the time.

I'd ring your local vet Cel, they'll be able to give you all the advcie you need about vacc's/food etc.
niesl_bug - I love the pic of your cat in the basin! Mine does that too, it must be cool for them. He now alternates between there and the bath....I have to shift him to either take a shower or brush my teeth.

We had males & females growing up. We have a male now.

He was DH's sisters cat, but as she lived on a farm, he wasnt looked after & had to fight with dogs for his food etc even as a kitten. So the ILs rescued him from there & now we have him. He can still be very agressive with food so have to watch him with MJ even now.

Here's a pic of him & MJ
