No nappy service here :) I was offered one as a gift from a family memeber before DS arrived but I turned it down because I figured that even though I was going to be using terry flats at first until I built up my stash, even with a nappy service, I'd have to wash my own fleece liners and covers which kinda defeats the purpose of someone else doing it all for you.

If you have a decent washing machine, washing nappies really isn't that big a deal (maybe 10 minutes out of your day which includes hanging on the line). I'd rather spend the money on the wash service in getting some quality fitteds which are much better performance wise and easier to use than terry flats or disposables (IMO at least :p )

I had nappy service from Nan's Nappy Laundry for #2, and it was about $1400 for 12 months of 70 nappies per week when I looked into it for #3.

We ended up spending the $1400 on a new puppy instead when our previous dog died suddenly, so I am washing my own nappies. I use flat nappies, dry pail, and I wash when the machine is full, so about every 4-5 days (I have heaps of nappies).

Honestly, the worst part about it is the folding of the nappies, and nappy service doesn't avoid that part. And worse, somrtimes you get big bits of fluff/lint come off them when you are folding, so you have to vacuum.

I did sometimes have quality issues with the nappies - some were pretty much threadbare. A friend had Nappiwash at the same time, and had issues with them sending brand new nappies which absorbed nothing, or old threadbare ones.

well, we loved nappiewash. :) we got it as a 6 week gift for our newborn days, and loved not having to think about washing for that time. however, it was about $25/week (the prices are on their website if you want to compare, they don't service your area though). The nappies came nice and soft, were absorbent enough for us given the frequency of changes a newborn needs in any nappies anyway, service was great. no complaints. DH loved using snappis and snibs/t-wraps (I mean, he LOVED them!) and I enjoyed folding them while relaxing in the evening - it forced me to relax!

This time a friend is lending us their newborn stash of home made and WAHM fitteds, so we will use them, along with our own terry squares, and although we seriously considered it, won't go with nappiewash. but i recommend it highly to first time mums finding their feet.

Sounds like my DS as a bub LOL A lot of the popular fitteds didn't suit his body shape but I found snappi-able Tots Bots to be the best fit. Also Erica Nappies worked too due to the high cut of their legs and and thinner wings which meant I could cross them over to tighten the waist without cutting in at the thighs.
