Hi all

I have decided to convert. Thats right after hearing all the discussion on clothies Ive decided to do what I said I would when I was preggi and be a friend to the environment:yes:

Im still pretty clueless on all this so you will all have to guide me-

I should add The_Queen did a fantastic job talking me through all this last night:hugs:

Seeing as Im quite handy with a sewing machine I thought Id make my own nappies.

But what do I make?

What will I need?

Now I need a pattern to make them also

So girls tell me all you know. Oh this is all so exciting.

I should add Ill be buying everything from spotlight-

Also dont forget to speak english when your explaining things to me Im already a bit like this ----->

What nappies will you be making?
I don't sew nappies yet but would like to.
I want to make fitteds but most ppl on bh seem to be making pockets - these have PUL which you can't get from Spotlight.
I think there are a few patterns online.

If you want to buy from Spotlight you can make a fleece lined with Taslon.

Otherwise you need to buy some PUL from one of the nappy sites that we are not allowed to post now, so you might have to go back and wade through some old posts.

There are heaps of nappy patterns online so do a search and choose the one that suits you the most AIO or pocket.

Or you could buy a nappy from one of the sites we are not allowed to post now, and see how its made and copy the pattern. (I think this is the best idea so you can really see what you are doing).

oh, and you will need hemp and microfibre to stuff if making pockets. you can buy the inserts or make them yourself,

www.OzClothNappies.org has lots of this kind information, with links to both free and paid patterns, and even a review of 3 popular free patterns.

I've mad heaps of nappies myself, and found it quite easy, and much better value for money.

If you want to make Pockets you can make them from:

Outer - PUL or Malden Mills Fleece.

Lining - Suedecloth, microfleece or sherpa.

Inserts - Hemp, Cotton or anything absorbant

You can get fleece from The wee wuns

PUL, hemp and microfleece from greanbeans in NZ. Also PUL prints from various Australian sites

Spotlight I've found sometimes has suedecloth, and something they call high cotton fleece, which looks and feels exactly like sherpa, and works really well as a lining.

Then you need elastic, thread and velcro which you can get from spotlight or any other craft store

there are sites like Nappyworks and a few others that have nappy cuts, but if you are making a lot them it's cheaper to get metre cuts from other sites like greanbeans, then as your stash grows you can buy smaller peices

There are a few threads about this already so have a sort through

Good Luck, and happy sewing!!
