View Full Version : Length of feeding time
Hi, my 8week old son has recently started only taking one breast for approx 10 mins before falling asleep. I've tried waking him up by changing nappy before putting him on the other breast, however he won't take it. Is 10mins on one side enough? He still goes 3hrs between feeds, sometimes 6 (at night)... :)
Someone once said to me that you cannot ever over feed a baby as they will only take as much feed as they need.
I don't really know but I am guessing if bub isn't crying for food, maybe you just have alot of milk.
Might be worth getting others opinions on this topic though.
Yeah i agree, if babe is not crying for it then i wouldnt worry to much about it.

Every bubs different but to be sure your bubs getting enough just check his weight gain.....if his happy and putting on weight then I'd say your one lucky Mumma bear :D
Im so jealous DS used to feed for an hour LOL no kidding, 30 minutes each breast  He did settle down to 20-30 mins each feed but that was after about 5 or 6 months but he was always a guts, much like his father now I think about it :p
My girls both settled down to 10 minutes feeds - often only taking one breast at about the same stage as yours. If your baby is going that long between feeds and is refusing and is otherwise happy, having wet nappies and gaining weight, sounds like he has just sorted out how much he needs and is feeding efficiently. Nothing to worry about!
Babies are really individual about this. My son only fed about 10mins for ages although more often than your bub. Try this for some more info.

My first bub would feed all day if I let him, the second was in and out in a flash. They both thrived and put on about the same weight at each milestone, so one just liked to take his time and the other knew there was something else exciting to do...
