View Full Version : crackly chest noises
my 4 week old after a feed , if not all day, makes these noises in his chest like he has a bad chest infection. is it the sound of trapped wind (he is near impossible to burp)
or the sound of reflux (the food trying to come back up)?
even the chcn was not sure

Hi suemp,
When my son was 3 months old i noticed he had like a rattle/crackle in his chest. I took him to a doc who said it was nothing to worry about. Then when i took my son for his 6mth immunisation he wasn't 100% and a different doctor examined him and told me that he had whats called Mucus Rales which can turn into pneumonia over night.
Im not telling you this to alarm you or stress you out but I would get him checked just to be on the safe side. Your son may have colic/reflux but its best to get him checked just in case.
mson has had a almost congested breathing noise since he was 4 weeks old hes now 4 mnths i was told its all ok and normal but im thinking now that i might get the gp to check him again hes got an appointment on monday for hid needles so im going to have him checked again.
better to be safe than sorry right?
Babies siphon milk into their noses and over their throat to prevent discomfort when they throw up. Its normal. Unless he's also got a cough, high temperature or other such cold-like symptoms, it's nothing to worry about.
oh ok thanks very uch for that never had a temp or a cough. so i guess its ok then thank you again :)
I have only just taken Tyler (who is 5 weeks) to the GP for that exact reason... She checked his chest and said it was all clear... she told me that it is because babies don't know how to cough or clear their chests properly... so the noises which sound like are an infection is their way of doing it... she said not to worry until he actally developed a proper cough and a temperature....
It still freaks me out when he does it though... I have to see his peadeatrcian on Monday for his 6 week check up so I am going to ask him too, just to be on the safe side.... so if he says anything different I'll let you know!!
