Hi There....

Due to the drought we are relocating from Country Victoria to Townsville in January.

I was just wondering about schools, good living locations...and also just how many mums from here are up there. My sister has lived there for a short while and has her views but i'd like some others, too...thanks!!!

There are a few of us up here! Umm, what sort of area - close to the city? new? price range? schools -public or private? Annandale is nice, Riverside gardens and Fairfield Waters is fairly new...

Sorry I haven't answered anything! Feel free to PM me with any questions!

Well, my sister is at Kelso and her DD goes to a private school, but i want my kids to go public. She did say that Annandale is really nice. Was chatting on MSN to an old school buddy yesterday who is in the army and he tells me his has been posted up there and will be leaving the same time as us. He will be in the Kirwan area and had been told the Kirwan Primary was the best up there.

Will be renting for now, at least a year or 2, to make sure we want to stick around. Happy to pay up to $300 a week.

Thanks!

hey. sorry i dont really have much advice.
dont go somewhere like deeragun. too far out and a hole. especially with kids.
i didnt mind kirwan area.
i just wanted to give you this advice:
keep an open mind when u go up there. i hated it at first, and it wasnt until i left that i realised how much i really liked it. the heat takes a little getting used to but other than that and the "parkies" its a great place.
annandale is a nice area as well.

My suggestion would be to stay away from Vincent. We lived in Kirwan (very nice) and Kelso - a little bit older & further away but had no problems there

jensen is out near deeragun.
Its an ok area, there just isnt anything for kids to do. younger ones are ok to entertain, but for teenagers and kiddies that like to think they are teenagers its terrible lol. and the stupid fish and chip shop at the shops was closed by7.30 every night!

im not a city person either, but even living at aitkenvale i didnt really feel like i was in a city. townsville is too laid back for that! its great.

Hello, I went to kirwan primary school and I would definately send my kids there. Although weir primary is a much 'prettier' school, being situated on the river.

Thanks for that.......the schools we are leaning toward is The Willows, Weir and Rasmussen.....we put the info out for th kids to look at and they want rasmussen cos of the sports programs....lol...and my DD cant wait to get into the smart kids program....lol...those 3 seem like smaller schools and maybe easier for the kids to adapt.

I am in North Ward also - definatley agree with the garbutt comment. I like North Ward we have had no probs here. A bit of info though there was an article in the paper not so long ago saying Palm Island and Kirwin were the 2 most violent places in QLD. I personally would stay wouldnt live over that side of town. Good luck with your move
