View Full Version : Boobs & Maternity Bras
Well i went to get some maternity bras today, as my normal ones are killing me and i was falling out all over the place.
I got fitted and have gone from a 12dd to a 14E
I nearly fell over..... im only little (size 10) and now have these melons hanging off me.
I ended up getting some Bonds bras as they were the most normal looking and they are super comfy.
And they were only $25 - BARGAIN
SO what im wondering is, how many of you are wearing maternity bras already?
What size did you go from and what size are you now?
What brands/style did you get?
Should i be expecting my boobs to get even bigger throughout pregnancy and then when BF??

No, not sure if I will - I find the crop tops better although I do have some brand new maternity bras in the cupboard that I forgot to take back from when I was breastfeeding DS2

Now 12A :crying: should get to a least a 12C:fingerscrossed:
What brands/style did you get?
The cheapest I can find!!!

They will get bigger when the milk comes in, but then settle down. Because of the IVF you started earlier so they might not get bigger. Sorry I can't be much more help

I am wearing a 10E (up a cup size from normal) strapless bra atm, it is perfect fit with a little room.
I bought it after I finished BF Xavier and my boobs were still big then so it fits really well now that I am pregnant again.
Also it really minimizes your bust and makes you look alot smaller than you really are, which I like
I will only wear it until my boobs get too uncomfortable. But luckily atm they aren't too sore at all, so an underwire is still comfy.
I will probably not get any maternity bras for awhle yet mainly coz they make me look like I have one big boob and then I feel all frumpy, so I'll hold out as long as possible!!
Go with whats comfy and practical for you though hun, I think I wore a maternity bra quite early on last time too, (around 3months).
But I was sorer last time and my boobs had gone from a 10D to a 10E so it was a shock for me and I rushed out to get a mat bra!
They get even bigger when your milk first comes in too and can be like rockmelons really large and hard, but they will settle down eventually. So if you get mat bras now you may need to get new ones after your milk comes. I didn't, I managed to squeeze into mine. Plus I had masitis so I spent alot of time walking around topless (or with cabbage leaves as a bra) and didnt use a bra at all:eek:
My fave was a purple Elle Macpherson one.

Welcome to the world of melon boozies :D
I will need to start wearing a maternity bra soon as my boozies start to get too big......and beleive me they're nearly there! I'm usually a 12C but will most likely go to an E (like I did with DD) just before I give birth and whilst breast feeding
I got my bras from myer where they help get you fitted. I wore Triumph maternity bras, they soooooooo don't do anything for support though!
Don't know where I'm gonna get them from this time!

hmm, I just posted a question about this!! oh well...
I wore m/bras pretty early on with DS... I think I was freaking out cos my boobs got so big!! (can you hear my DH cheering???)
After wearing underwires for so long... wearing wire free was nice... different. Definitely no jumping around!!
*sigh* I think I might go get fitted this time too... was too lazy/scared before...
Porridge... smart minds think alike, i also posted it in the other thread but thought it might be easier for ppl to see and respond if it had its own thread.
Julie i read mastitis is caused by wearing underwire bras, so if you ended up with it last time why are you wearing them still now??:o

WOW Bonds sell Maternity bras, I haven't seen them.
Usually if it is your cup that has changed it is the letter not the number. So if you are normally 10 a and then go to a 10 d then your cup size has got bigger,. If your normally a 10 a and then go to a 12 d then you have also got bigger in dress size as the number is just what clothes size your back is.. Does that make sense. So I was 12 c and then went to 14f while my cup size did get bigger so did my dress size. IYKWIM

I'm wearing one right now but I am still feeding my DS who is 15mnths old.
What size did you go from and what size are you now?
Now 12C to a 14F
What brands/style did you get?
I used to buy cheap ones but seriously they stretch and go **** after a couple washes.

While your boobs do get bigger apparently you should wait until your 16wks pregnant before rushing out and getting measured. I wouldn't wear no underwire for a while boobs start saggin after a while, lol.

Yep that makes perfect sense.
However i havent gotten bigger as in dress size(well not yet still a normal size 10), they just dont make 12EE bras. So i had to go to a 14E so that they fit.
Was still hanging out of the 12E so had to go up a size to allow for more room.
Here is a link for bonds bras

By the way these are great for support, no flopping, sagging or anything. I reckon i could even go for a run in it and not get hit in the face so to speak hahah
But then again by boobs aren't saggy yet, im just really looking forward to the windsocks ill have after breast feeding.....

Julie i read mastitis is caused by wearing underwire bras, so if you ended up with it last time why are you wearing them still now??:o
But thats the thing I did wear mat bras early on last time and it didn't make any difference.
My mastitis was caused by cracked nipples from poor attachment as I have very flat nipples, it had nothing to do with the bra I wore at the beginning of my pregnancy.
Don't believe everything you read darl, you can be as prepared as you want and wear a maternity bra from the day of conception and still get mastitis.
I choose to keep wearing an underwire at the moment because it is still comfortable, and I see no need to change if it 's not uncomfortable, I really don't believe this will give me mastitis.

Mastitis is a blockage in the milk duct - not really from wearing underwire. They say underwire can damage the milk ducts, but each to there own. Do what ever is comfy for you.
But one word of advice is don't try and sqeeze into a smaller bra no matter how horrified you are of your growing boozies. When your milk comes in, they will be absolutely massive and as sore as hell. The last thing you want is a smaller fitting bra when that happens.

I haven't bought maternity bras yet, i am going to try the ones i used the last couple of times on and see if they are still ok.
Right now i'm just wearing my good ol favourite push up bra (I don't have the trouble you girls do, i'm a B cup :( ) i have just taken the wire out.
I wore wire for quite a while with my last two pregnancies and had problems feeding both of them, so i guess i'm trying to do everything right this time...

Where did you ladies go to buy your bonds bras?
They do look good, but i'd want to make sure i had the right size before i got one.
hey chiky
I got mine from Big W for $25.00.
They come in white, black and a gorgeous hot pink.
Hmm i might have tooo look into mastitis a little bit more, the bra lady was steering me well away from wires :detective:
Maybe im just a paranoid first time mum :p

Dont wear wires if you don't want to hun, I was paranoid first time too so didn't wear underwires.
I wore crop tops and bikinis then maternity bras, I was told not to wear them and read not wear them too.
I only am this time coz I don't personally believe it will do anyharm, I want to relax about this pregnancy, so will wear one until I am noticing discomfort, but it is purely up to you as an individual.
There are many things you can do to prepare and prevent mastitis, like expressing, draining boobs entriely, massage, the list goes on, but like most things when you have your first bub they dont always go to plan no matter how much you educate yourself.
I was so dissapointed when it didn't work how I planned it so this time I am taking a more relaxed approach in hope that might help.
Plus I am going to arm myself with nipple sheilds
(midwives hate them btw) as I believe if I hadn't had such badly cracked and bleeding nipples I may not have got the infection in the first place! I am also looking at getting my own personal lactation consultant to help me this time if I can afford it as I find that midwives in the hospital give alot of conflicting advice on how to feed.
This alone can indirectly cause mastitis by trauma to the boobs from being man handled and nipples getting torn from being yanked one way or another (this is how I was treated anyway) so went home from the hospital with bleeding nipples.
Unfortunately this is a common occurance so hopefully my own LC can help with that this time:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: Look into it if you are really worried about BF though, BF is really hard, not for everyone but for alot of us so you need good help and guidance with it.:detective:

Good idea little X!
I never had b/feeding classes, but i'm thinking this time i might. Unfortunately for me my supply was always the issue, not the attatchment.
Hoping to stick it out until at least 6 months this time, but like you i am trying to take a relaxed approach this time too.
Can only wait and see i guess.
I highly recommend you first time ladies to have b/feeding classes though, you do get a LOT of conflicting advice in the hospital!

How long did you breastfeed before? DS1 was 5 mths, DS2 was 2 1/2 he was so fussy took so much energy out of me!! Hoping to go 6mths or more with this one.
Oh you get lots of conflicting advice, its so frustrating but in the end you work out what is best for you and bub!!!

DS I fed for allmost 3 months, DD i managed to feed for 5 months, with the help of two rounds of milk booster tablets.
I must say though, my babies were so much healthier & happier when they went on the bottle, so i'm not going to stress if b/feeding doesn't work out again this time.

I am like that too, the only problem I had was DS2 got constipated very badly when he went onto the bottle but solids soon changed that

OOoo those Bonds bras are nice.....
Last pregnancy my boobs started at a 12c......pregnancy got me up to a 14E and breastfeeding got me up to a 14F.
I got back to a 12C but now they're up to a D again.
I wore underwire until it got uncomfortable, which for me wasn't till about 32weeks. I never got mastitis and I bf till DS turned 1.
I say u change ur bras when u feel the need for that wire free comfort.
