Hi there, my 5month DD has developed Eczema over the last month or 2. I have just seen my CHN and she recommended that I come off all dairy and wheat products and continue breast feeding. Has anyone done this and it has worked?
Otherwise I am considering going onto formular (As I don't know if I can cut all that out, I'm rather hopeless. )...can anyone recommend one?
It is worse in hot weather, so i am trying to keep her as cool as possible.
Also what lotions have people tired and that have worked. I have used Hydrocortisone a couple of times when it has been really bad but don't want to use it if I don't have to.
I am really confused andI would be really appreciative of any hints or suggestions.
Thanks in advance

Keep breastfeeding and do try to eliminate the more obvious triggers like wheat and dairy from your diet. Do it one at a time though, to see if there is a noticable difference, so you can see which one in the cause.

It could be a multitude of things causing it: dust, wool, pollen, pet fur - the list can seem endless.

There are a million different creams you can try. Different creams work for different people and can cost you lots of money to work out which one is working!

Don't use bubble bath, baby oil or basically any baby product as they all have perfumes in them (often labled as "fragrance").

I highly recommend Dermeze, you put other eczema creams on first and then this over the top. It's like a barrier cream that keeps the skin moisterised. But it is very slippery and greasy.
Don't take her swimming in chlorine, it will make it worse. Salt water however does wonders for the skin.

Stay away from formula - and that includes Soy.

My kids have had eczema, and I have been advised that Soy is as likely to cause/aggravate eczema as dairy products.

I'd also try to stick to organic food, too. It has worked wonders on my own eczema, and also on the kids.

I get the Eczema Cream and Eczema mixture (mineral salt solution) from Dartnell's Pharmacy in Surrey Hills Vic. They make their own mixture and cream, they will post it. No one else has the same cream or mixture that I have found.

Carefully consider everything you wash her and her clothes in. I'm having success with Tri-Nature Alpha Plus laundry powder, previously I was using Amolin liquid with success, but found it too expensive to wash all the laundry in it.

I get a bland olive oil soap from Gooramadda Olives in NE vic.

Like Chelle said, give up one thing at a time. Also talk to your GP. I'm not a fan of CHN's (never had a good experience with one) so see what they say. They might be able to get you in to get your DC allergy tested. Food allergies aren't always the cause of Eczema. THe fact that it flares up worse in the heat tells me that it might be because of something else as well.
DD gets eczema from food allergies and the heat makes no difference to her eczema.
DD is allergic to cow's milk, eggs, barley, cashew nuts, hazelnuts and almonds. She is still breastfed and I have eliminated all of these foods from my diet. It's not as hard as you think. There are lots of dairy free products out there now.
My ped just told me to put DD onto soy formula (she is one on Sunday) and her reasons make no sense to me. She's off her rocker and I am not going back to her. She's a formula loving doctor, and while I'm not against formula she gave me no good reason to put DD on it.
Your DC might be allergic to Soy yet so before you go and wean and start on formula you need to find that out.
Good luck!

If eczema is a concern, I would definitely stay away from formula... you are more likely to have issues with allergies than less.

Like the PPers said, I would cut back on one thing at a time. Dairy would be my first one. With any luck, that will do the trick and you can continue to eat wheat, etc. If you can't cut back totally, try really hard to limit it as much as possible.
