after looking at another thread i was thinking about xmas trees:tree: how appropriate...any way, do you have a colour theme?
i used to, but now i try to get as many different colours on the tree as possible, my kids love lots of colour:wizard:
and do you put tinsel on your tree, i dont i think it looks messy,.......maybe just when i do it:rolleyes:
should see my tree DD decorated it
My tree isn't up yet, I am waiting till 1st December, but yep, theres lots of colour and I do put tinsel but I put it on first and sort of wind it around in the inside of the branches.

I don't use tinsel, I have strings of red/green/gold beads I use instead.
As for decorations, I stick to glass ones, and they can be expensive, so I usually buy a few every year. The ones DH and I bought when we first moved in together are over 20 years old now, so some of them are showing their age, and need to be retired.
I also get my children a new chistmas decoration each year. When they leave home, they can take their decorations with them, to be the start of their own christmas tree decoration collection.

I stick to a colour theme.
This year Ive gone for a silvery look, with pale lilac, pale blue and silver decorations. (predominately silver though). I have a photo linked on the other thread.
And Im not a tinsel person. Just not a big fan!

Pink, purple & silver...They even had a pink & a purple tree in town, and i would have got one of those, but DH wouldn't let me! I put tinsel on, but put it on first like shed does.
The deccys in the rest of the house this year are traditional colours though.

Our tree is pretty colourful. My preference is just a couple of colours but DF loves lots so we compromised, not too many but just enough IYKWIM. We do use tinsel but I am super fussy with it, it has to be just right. It has to go around the tree a certain way. I put it on the tree first and have been known to put it on and take it off dozens of times before I am happy with it.

I have a colour theme of purple blue and silver. But if someone gives me an ornament that's another colour it still goes on the tree.

This is kinda funny every year i chuck on the decos in any order!!!
This year its colour co ordinated Purple and Silver it looks great but thats sooooo not me!!!
Hubby thinks its a pregnancy thing dunno!!!!???
no theme here, i like the idea, but we recycle our deco's and add new special ornaments- usually ones the kids have made or gifts from relatives.
i love that our decorations have a history, many i have had for more than 20 years. some of the tinsels pretty old too!
love tinsel, the smell of tinsel reminds me of xmas:xmas:
Yep, retentive tree decorator here - all silver except for a few little red hearts... And all white lights... Although i do have a tiny stocking that i got in Kindy from the teacher (red) with a decoration in it...
Don't use the big things of tinsel, have the thin strips of tinsel that you hang down the tree..
No tinsel on our tree. I put a string of 220 lights on first, then lots of coloured balls and ornaments. My special glass decorations have to go at the top of the tree and all the non-breakable ones at the bottom. DD usually helps me decorate it.

My theme is green tree (oh how boring hehehe) and red and gold deco's.
DP tells me Im a Xmas tree Nazi LOL. I have to have everything in the right place in the right order and matching - Oh and I have to do it, I hate it when DP tries to help hehehehe.
1st is the white lights (they are candle shaped with flame shaped bulbs) 200 of them that are put on.
2nd is thick red tinsel that is wound around the tree but more towards the trunk IYKWIM.
3rd is the 30 gold ornaments, then my red ornaments then the glass and crystal ones. The cheaper kid friendly ones go on the bottom but are still red/green/gold themed.
Last is the Gold star and then the train etc under the tree.
God I sound soooooo pathetic - but hey who cares it looks great when finished hehehehe.
Cheers
Kelly
My colour theme is red and gold ornaments on a green tree.
No tinsel here, but strings of red and gold beads. DD helped to decorate the xmas tree at day care this week, and apparently loved the tinsel- so I might have to invest in some after all.:reindeer:
I have a gold and silver theme, with only a few different coloured decorations :)
Gold and silver for me too.... with the stringy tinsel stuff rather than the traditional tinsel... and most of my decos are home made....
Am getting Pip a special decoration as a keepsake each year for her to collect... so when she grows up and moves out she has something to treasure....
this is the first year not in my mothers house so the first time i had to buy our own xmas tree and decorations. mum's tree was always just random bits of tinsel and decorations, while being very festive, it was never very pretty imo.
this year i bought i fibre optic tree so i didnt have to buy extra lights, that are just another dangly thing for DS to pull of the tree plus, they dont get hot like tree lights so no risk of DS burning himself. but they are oh so pretty too!
i bought my decorations in a colour theme. blue and gold baubles with crystal icicle decorations. i bought tinsel but once i out it on it looked tacky and covered up the pretty lights so i will probably used the tinsel to decorate the house.
the tree right now looks like something out of a catalogue, a little too perfect. i'm going to buy a few more little ornaments to make it a bit more personal.
i bought some handmade baubles with our names on them also.

I have a couple of different themes I rotate each year. Gold, silver or pink/purple and a couple of different lights I also rotate each year. I'm really disappointed this year with the stuff in the shops as it only seems to be the gold/silver themes and I was hoping for a nice blue, but there's nothing about .
So, will have to make a decision next week on what this year's them will be!
