View Full Version : Cross cultural play group - East Brisbane
If anyone is interested in attending a cross cultural play group at the East Brisbane Community Centre - aimed at parents of babies under 12 months, send me a PM and I will give you the contact phone number.
At the moment they are meeting once a fortnight on a Wednesday morning, and there is a lovely group of mums and bubs meeting to talk, play, access information and toys, and share in the wonder that is parenting!

Thanx For The Information
This group is reforming for the year. The details are:
To discuss issues relating to mothering, and share thoughts and experiences, eg most useful parenting book, cultural differences re how babies are cared for, the challenges of being a mother
ü To allow infants to play and begin learning social skills
ü To identify and use good infant’s resources and toys
ü To ask questions and get new ideas on childrearing
ü To occasionally ask professionals / others to speak about a topic and share their wisdom
The group is therefore supportive and educational as well as social. At this point, the group is only for mothers with infants, ie babies 1 year or younger. As we acquire more resources and improve our playground and facilities, we will be able to build on this and provide playgroups / mothers groups for children of different ages.
Previous members of the group have returned to work or otherwise become busy, so we’re looking for around 10 women and their children. We particularly want to target women who lack support and / or are from diverse backgrounds.
Participants are not required to bring anything except their ideas and enthusiasm, but may bring toys or resources etc if they like. The cost is $2 per meeting. The day, time, and frequency can be negotiated among members.
Any interested women should phone Dorinda Harvey at the East Brisbane Community Centre on 3891 5686.

Hi,
This is all so new to me my baby is 5mos old now. So far so good but am willing to join any playgroup close to our place which is along East Brisbane. Thanks for the information below. I might as well call too.
Thank you.

Oh my word what an absolute God-send! I'm a new mother of a 2 month old precious boy, I'm also new to Australia - so have been without my usual support network of family and friends which has been rather difficult. You cannot imagine how over the moon I am to find that there is a support group just around the corner and for women from diverse backgrounds too!! (most other support groups I've tried to join require catching 2 buses etc, which I'm so reluctant to do with such a small bub and being unfamiliar with bus routes etc).
Thanks for posting the phone number, I'm definitely going to give them a call. By the way, I note the dates for your postings are like way overdue - is the group still in existence?
Cheers
