The buhhub website offers links to companies that recycle disposable nappies, however when I rang them, none recycled. Can anyone suggest a company in the sydney area that will pick up your disposables and recycle them? Trying to be green here, but failing miserably with all these land filling nappies!!! Thanks a bunch

Caroline

Planet Ark were trialling this in Melbourne only but they are temporariliy out of service. I don't think there is anything else.

there's some information on cloth alternatives in Melbourne, well, everywhere for that matter, here:

I think it will be a long time before a disposable nappy recycling service is available interstate, if it's found to be feasible after the Melbourne 'break' where they are trying to work out how to make it economically and environmentally viable.

Give modern cloth a go! We started a couple months ago and now we only use sposies for night (soon to change to cloth thought:thumbsup: )

There are sooo many different types and they are sooo cute and fashionable. DD's nappies will last her till she is toilet trained:thumbsup: .

Have a look at the nappy discussions section on here!

Thanks for your responses. I do use cloth nappies too, just wanted to dispose of the disposables properly if I can (use them at night and when out and about)

From the information I have read (Australian based an international), it is debatable how 'environmentally friendly' disposable nappy recycling really is. If you do use disposables, you are probably better off remembering to empty the poo into the toilet and not wrapping it up in extra layers of plastic before binning it.
