Since the last treatment of antibiotics for DD's eczema in August, we still have not been able to get rid of the oral thrush that came as a result of the anitbiotics.
We have tried Nilstat and Daktarin and the thrush is back even worse than before. Anyone have any suggestions of something else we can try?

See if you can get a hold of some Gentian Violet. It is a bright purple liquid that you can use for thrush or mouth ulcers and it works.
It will probably be pretty hard to get hold of. I am pretty sure it has been banned in Queensland. I would be trying the chemists, your doctor or some naturopaths etc.
Sorry.....Daktarin was the only thing that got rid of my bub's oral thrush. Maybe call a clinic nurse for some other "home" remedies.
Good luck.

Nilsat worked for us.... maybe it's worth trying some of the usual remedies and hopefully in conjunction with Daktarin/Nilsat it might work?
Would yoghurt, yakult, pro-biotic tablets or something help maybe?

Does yogurt work for thrush, or am I thinking of something else??
I think yogurt only works for vag thrush..... I have not heard of it as a treatment for oral thrush.
I used to get oral thrush all the time but it was something in my diet setting it off all the time and until I worked out what it was I had to have Nilstat every month to get rid of it. As soon as it waws gone it came back again... can't remember what it was that was causing it now...

She has been eating yoghurt every day for the past week and it is getting worse. Think I might have to take her to the doctor and see if there is anything stronger to kick it.

when i had nipple thrush when breast feeding it was so painful and persistant (week after week after.......) .it hung around so long that i had to change a few things in lifestyle , not just using a cream.....
first thing was acifidophulus (spelling??) tablets - better than a jar of yoghurt - more concentrated....i got the good ones from the chemist that must be kept in the fridge - they're a bit expensive ($18 jar) but you won't have to take them for long.
i think you need to cut out sugars and yeast foods (ie vegemite)...as these help thrush thrive. have a look on the internet to see what other foods thrush likes.
maybe some sort of diluted vinegar mouth wash a few times a day. i think i was rinsing my nipples like this.
and also exposure to sun is really really good, but i don't know how you can do this with DD.
good luck

is it sweet fruit flavoured yoghurts - because that would make it worse. you have to have the plain non flavoured variety

I think that going to the doc's is a good idea, Chelle, it can hang around but it certainly shouldn't be getting worse. Ariene is often getting oral thrush (which then spreads to my nipples when she feeds) and I've treated it using Nilstat, Daktarin and I've been taking acidopholis and bifidus tablets (Digestive Health).

Explains that then, she won't eat the plain stuff.

Have you tried Inner Health powder? You can mix it in a little bit of juice and that can help. It's expensive though.
